Well, to say that Bungie is going all out to make it easy for players to get back into the game for the conclusion of the Light-Dark Saga would be an understatement. Barriers to entry are actually getting knocked down left and right, and as a longtime player of the franchise, it’s actually fairly wild to watch unfold. For those of you who have been tapped out for a long time, June 4th is the launch of The Final Shape and basically our Avengers End Game moment as we face off against The Witness.

The Final Showdown

Even though Lightfall definitely drops the ball story-wise, for me, I really want to see how the saga ends and what happens afterward. Bungie’s got all the usual hype trailers going, but they’re actually pretty fire, and we’re going into the Traveler, and there’s long-gone characters who are back. Are they dead? Is it just a vision? What’s happening? I don’t know, but I’m hyped to find out.

Leveling the Playing Field

And if you’re thinking, “I’ve been out of the game for a long time; my Power Level is going to be weaker than Drake’s comeback game,” well, I’ve got good news for you on that front. First of all, in The Final Shape, there’s going to be a new power floor that all players will be raised up to automatically, 1900, meaning even if you haven’t touched the game in forever, if you log in on June 4th for The Final Shape, all your gear will be 1900, and you’ll be at the same level as everybody else.

Raid Preparation for The Final Shape

If you were a raider back in the day and want to hop into The Final Shape raid, it happens really quickly on June 7th, just three days after launch. To be raid ready, you’ll only need to be at 1965 power. Any higher won’t make a difference during the day one raid due to the contest mode modifier. If you go through the legendary campaign, you’ll already be nearly raid ready.

New Mechanics in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 introduces a new mechanic in The Final Shape called Fire Team Power. The player with the highest Power Level becomes the power leader, and all other players in the fire team will be brought up to 5 power below the leader. This mechanic helps players with less grind time still enjoy higher level activities.

Enhanced Accessibility to The Final Shape

From now until the launch of The Final Shape, the first seasonal activity you complete each day will award a Deep Site weapon still missing its pattern, covering craftable weapons from seasons 20 to 23. Additionally, players are offered one extra account name change.

Increased Rewards and Accessibility in Pantheon

In the Pantheon event, by the end, when it ramps up to contest mode difficulty, you can earn some impressive emblems. More than just an ego boost, this free-to-play activity offers raid loot even if you’ve never participated in or paid for any of the included raids before. It’s a chance to acquire Spoils of Conquest and specific raid exotic weapons—like the elusive Eyes of Tomorrow—without relying on RNG.

New Offerings in PvP

For the PvP enthusiasts, there’s good news too. We just got three brand new PvP Maps this week, each a breath of ultra-fresh air compared to Disjunction. If you’ve been away from the game so long that you don’t know what Disjunction is, don’t worry about it.

Reflecting on Into the Light and Moving Forward

Into the Light, which is completely free, is a significant factor in the game’s recent trajectory. Although the path leading here, marked notably by Lightfall’s failure to meet many player expectations, was not ideal, Into the Light represents a strong recovery. As we approach The Final Shape, there’s a sense of Optimism. However, it’s no guarantee of future success; The Final Shape could still miss the mark. But for those who’ve been away from Destiny 2 for a while, now is a great time to consider returning to Experience the conclusion of the Light-Dark Saga, a story 10 years in the making. The barrier to entry for both returning and new players is lower than ever, making this a prime moment for old friends and players to reunite for the saga’s end. If you’ve moved on, I understand, but if you’re still engaged, the upcoming end of the saga is a thrilling prospect.
