Beginner-Friendly Guide for 90 Atlas Passive Skill Points in Path of Exile 2

Today, we’re diving into a beginner-friendly guide for earning all 90 Atlas passive skill points in Path of Exile 2. These points are super important if you want to maximize your endgame farming efficiency and increase the difficulty of your endgame content, which will also increase the loot that you get.

This includes breaches, rituals, expeditions, simulacrum, map bosses, the normal map tree, and of course, Arbiter himself. By the end of this guide, you’ll know exactly how to get all 90 Atlas points, and you can use this guide, which will guide you on how to use those points in a more efficient way. So, for those who don’t know, the Atlas passive skill points let you customize your Atlas and scale your endgame. You can use them to boost League mechanics like strong boxes, as wisps, rituals, rogue exiles, and much more. The more points you add to your tree, the more you empower your endgame mapping, which will increase the potential of the loot you will find and the encounters that you will face.

The first 40 points out of the 90, which are at the center of the Atlas tree, should not be confused with the points that you earn from specific mechanics around it. We’ve got the breach cluster, the expedition cluster, the rituals, simulacrum, and the Arbiter, which all require eight points. And lastly, we’ve got the map bosses, who have their own cluster of 10 points. We’ll go over all of these bonus sources later in this guide.

To get your first set of Atlas passive points, which is the main core of your tree and affects your everyday mapping, you’ll need to track down and defeat something called a Nexus of corruption. You’ll be given a quest by Dorian once you finish the campaign that you will need to complete six times, each time scaling to a higher difficulty so you can get your first 30 points, which is five points per nexus. When the nexus is uncovered, it looks like this. When it’s within the fog of war, you’ll find these areas marked with red tendrils on the world map like this. You can drag your map around to find the closest nexus you can path to, as it’s recommended to try getting as many points of the Atlas tree as possible before you start juicing your maps. Now, once you find the corrupted area and path towards the nexus and you’re ready to do it, you will need to add a way stone correspondent to the quest you’re on or higher with at least four modifiers.

Once inside, you will need to either beat the map boss, if there is one, or kill the final rare monster, which will spawn a corrupted boss. Defeating it will drop a crystalline core of knowledge, which you want to collect and then right-click to earn your first five points. Once you get the points, you want to chat with Dorian, and he’ll give you the next quest with higher difficulty. As mentioned before, to earn the full 30 points from nexuses, you’ll need to repeat this process at increasing waste tiers of tier one or higher, then tier three or higher, then tier 6 or higher, tier 9 or higher, tier 12, and then tier 15. Each successful Nexus completion of its correspondent difficulty grants you five points, totaling 30 when all are done.

Apart from getting the points when you successfully complete the nexus, you will also cleanse the entire area around it, adding new modifiers and twisted enemies to the area. These zones are really good for farming valuable drops like the fracturing orbs, so keep that in mind. However, if you fail the encounter, you’ll miss out on the points and you’ll need to find a new nexus. So, come prepared.

So, now you know how to get 30 out of the 40 points in the main atlas tree. The remaining 10 points come from completing unique maps for the first time. You’ll get two Atlas passive points per unique map up to the total of 10. That means that you need to finish five completely different unique maps. You can spot them on the world map by their orange icons. So, make sure that you double and triple check around the world map in case you miss them. Once you’re done with one, take note of its name and proceed to search for the next one.

Now that we know how to get all 40 of the main core points, let’s find out how to unlock all the other points for the remaining Atlas tree.

Endgame Map Bosses

Starting things off with the endgame map bosses. This 10-point cluster right here affects the bosses you encounter in your normal mapping. Each first point you add to the cluster will make the bosses even harder. And each second point you add will give you a benefit for fighting them. So the more Points you add in here, the harder the bosses will become, scaling all the way till tier four, but the more beneficial they will become, too. If we hover over the points in this cluster, GGG made an effort to explain how you can get them, but I’m going to try and simplify things.

PoE 2 Atlas Mastery – 90/90 Points Beginner’s Guide

To get the first two points, you need to defeat a boss in a map area that’s level 79 or higher. Level 79 area is a tier 15 waystone. The way stone doesn’t need to have any specific mod, but to find a boss in your maps, you’re looking at maps that have this little icon on them. Don’t forget that the radiated maps which have this icon on them increase the monster levels by plus one. So if tier 15 is a level 79 zone, then tier 14 waystone is a level 78 zone. So if you add a tier 14 waystone to an irradiated map, it will count as a level 79 too because it will get the plus one. Once defeated, the boss will drop a skill book which you want to collect and right-click to earn your first two points.

In order to get the next two points, you will need to spend the first two points in your atlas, as you cannot try grinding the next eight points without empowering them first. Now, to get the next six points, you need to do exactly the same thing, but with increased zone level. So, next, you need to defeat a boss in a level 80 zone, which is a tier 16 map. There are three effective ways to do this. Number one, use a T15 waystone into an irradiated map, which will increase the level by one. So tier 15 maps are level 79 as we saw before and irradiated will make it level 80. Number two, use a T14 waystone into an irradiated map that also has a plus one monster levels. These maps are usually found in corrupted or cleansed areas. Tier 14 maps are level 78 as we saw before. So irradiated will make it 79 and the plus one will make it 80. And number three, if you take a T-15 map and you use a Val orb on it, apart from having a chance of changing your modifiers for better or worse, it also has a chance of downscaling and upscaling your map. If it fails, it will downscale to T14. If it succeeds, it will upscale to T16.

T16 ways have a level 80 area zone, so simply running that without any radiated or anything else will get you your second book. Whatever method you decide to go with, make sure that you have a boss in the map that you’re going to run. Points five and six, you need to defeat a boss in a level 81 zone. And there are only two ways of doing that. Use a tier 16 waystone that you corrupted into an irradiated map or a map that has plus one in a corrupted or cleansed area. Or use a tier 15 waystone in a map that has both of those things.

Unlocking Points and Boss Encounters

Once again, make sure that there’s a boss in the map so you can defeat him and get the book. To get points seven and eight, you need to defeat a boss in a level 82 zone, which is the highest level zone that you could do. The only way that you can do this is by corrupting a tier 15 map to tier 16 using a Val orb like we mentioned before, and then running it with a radiated and plus one monster levels from corrupted or cleansed zones. And the last two points, which are 9 and 10, are only obtainable by defeating the Arbiter for the first time. So, speaking of the Arbiter, let’s cover him next.

The Arbiter is an uber boss that is considered very tough to kill, tough to get to, and a very valuable boss to grind for items. The way you get to him is by collecting three fragments: the Ancient Crisis, the Faded Crisis, and the Weathered Crisis. All three of these fragments are obtained by finding and defeating the final boss of the Citadels within the world endgame map. These citadels reflect the same three final bosses of act one, two, and three. For example, the iron citadel can be found as a white bluish beam on the map with act one’s final boss, Count Geonor.

The copper citadel can be found as an orange beam on the map with act 2’s final boss, Jamanra. And the stone citadel can be found as a red beam on the map with act 3’s final boss, Doriani. Once you find and defeat all three citadels and collect all three fragments, you can then go to the burning monolith. You want to go to the end of the path and add all three fragments on the wall, which will trigger the stage for your Arbiter encounter. The first time you defeat him, you will complete the quest Pinnacle of Flame, which will give you your final two map boss points, and he will also drop his first two points, too. All 10 points are obtained by constantly defeating him in a tier higher than before.

To unlock the points into the breach cluster, you need to run maps that have the breach mechanic in them. The icon you’re looking for is this one. The mechanic here is very simple. Once you enter the purple circle, it will expand and summon multiple mobs. The more you kill, the more breach splinters you will be able to collect. Once you collect a total of 300 splinters that will merge into a breach stone. You then want to use this stone on the realm gate, which is found above the burning monolith. Using the breach stone here will get you into the breach boss encounter called Zested. Defeating this guy will give you your first two points. And then just like anything else, you want to use those points to make him one tier harder and defeating him again. Each time you want to fight him, you need to provide the realm gate with a breach stone. And the more points you add into the breach cluster, the easier it will become to collect them as you empower the breach mechanic further.

Similar to the breach mechanic, we’ve got the simulacrum content. When you’re doing distilled maps or defeating distilled monsters, you’ll be able to collect simulacrum splinters. The best maps to farm these splinters are the ones with the delirium icons. The mechanic here is that you enter through a mirror into a foggy map, which will spawn extra monsters that get tougher the deeper and longer you survive in the fog. The more monsters you kill, the more splinters you will be able to collect, as well as build up a meter on the bottom left of your screen for additional items such as distilled emotions.

Atlas Points Guide

Just like the breach splinters, you will need to collect 300 of these so you can form an actual simulacrum. You will then use the stone into the realm gate once again, and you will enter the simulacrum encounter. Here there’s no boss, but there are 15 waves of monsters that you will need to defeat. Once you do that, you get your book of points. Defeating the simulacrum five times at increasing difficulty will unlock all 10 points.

Next, we’ve got the expedition cluster. To earn points here, you want to run any maps that have the expedition icon on them. You will have five explosives that you need to place within the strong boxes around the area while respecting also their modifiers, too. Once you’re happy with the layout, you detonate them and fight the monsters that spawn. Defeating these monsters will eventually drop you log books. The higher the area level of your map, the higher the log books will get. The reason why we care about the levels of these log books is because any log book higher than level 79 will have a slight chance of spawning the expedition boss. Now, when you defeat this boss, he will drop the points we need for the Atlas. And the way that you do these lock box is by talking to the NPC called Danic in your hideout. Once again, it’s mandatory to use your points to make the content harder before you run it again.

And lastly, we’ve got the rituals. To earn points for this cluster, you will need to find an item called audience with the king. The only way to find this item is by running maps with the ritual icon. You will find usually three or four total rituals that you could do within your maps. And once you click on them, they will spawn multiple monsters that you want to quickly kill. Each ritual encounter within your maps will give you some tribute currency. You can use this currency to buy stuff from the actual ritual that you just defeated. You can find multiple items of high value here, but the one that we’re looking for right now is the audience with the king. You’re allowed to reroll once to see if you can find it on the second page. If you’re lucky enough and see it, but you don’t have enough tribute to purchase it, make sure that you defer the item so you can come back. But once you get it, head to the realm gate once again and place it. This will start the king encounter, and defeating this boss will give you your points for the cluster. A small tip in this fight is when he sends you to the abyss, simply look for the glowy wisps and follow them. They will lead you to the purple portal back to the boss room.

Now, something very worthy that you can actually note is that every single item that we just mentioned, things like the fragments for the arbiter, the splinters for both the breach and the simulacrum, as well as the breach stone and the actual simulacrum, and the audience with the king, can all be purchased from Alva in the currency exchange through the market that other players are actually selling. So, in case you have the extra currency and you’re not finding the audience to the king or one of the fragments in the citadels, you can always go ahead and see if you can purchase the item that you need so you can get the points a little bit quicker.

And that covers all 90 Atlas points for every single content in Path of Exile 2.
