Keeping Your Character in Shape
Keeping your armor and clothing in fine order helps maintain your Charisma stat and improves persuasion when trying to convince NPCs. If you see the mud icon on your clothes, look for a wash trough or visit a bathhouse to clean up.

- Skip the practice chest and save your lockpick for the quest your trainer gives you (The Good Thief);
- Save before you must pick locks to preserve your single lockpick;
- After completing The Good Thief, you gain access to many more lockpicks for cheap;
- Lock-picking gets easier as you level up, but level it only after completing this quest.
Captain Bernard and Combat Training
As soon as you finish The Good Thief, head to Rattay Castle and advance the main quest so you can train with Captain Bernard. He unlocks perks that make sword fighting much easier and more fun, and gives you a needed tutorial in combat techniques. Do this early — you will enjoy the game much more.
Your First Horse and Travel
Continue the main quest until you reach The Hunt Begins. This quest gives you your first horse and allows much faster travel. Once you have your horse, head to Merhojed (west of Talmberg) or finish The Hunt Begins in Neuhof.
Horse Gear and Accessories
Purchase saddlebags and spurs for your horse — spurs improve control significantly. This frees up storage space, as you can store items on your horse. Do not forget to deck out your horse with a caparison.
