What’s up Fighters? Librarian Husky here. Fortnite can be a challenging game, but with the right strategies, you can improve your gameplay significantly. Here are some essential tips to help you elevate your performance.

Enhance Your Fortnite Skills with These Tips

It’s crucial to master the basics of Fortnite. Simple Moves like window edits, high walls, and side jumps can make a significant difference in your fights. By perfecting these foundational skills, you can win the majority of your battles without relying on flashy maneuvers.

Optimizing your key binds is essential for maximizing your efficiency in the game. Whether you’re using a controller or keyboard and mouse, having well-configured key binds is crucial. Consider adopting the key binds used by professional players to enhance your gameplay.

Engaging in peace control maps is a highly effective way to enhance your building and editing speed. These maps can also improve your shotgun aim and overall accuracy. While they may seem repetitive, practicing on these maps can lead to rapid improvement in your skills.

Setting realistic goals is important for measuring your progress in Fortnite. Instead of aiming for lofty achievements, focus on targets that are attainable within a few months of dedicated practice. Qualifying for a solo cash cup or achieving a high kill count in Unreal Rank are realistic goals to strive for.

Once you’ve mastered the basics, learning advanced techniques can give you an edge over your opponents. Moves like pre-firing and fake edits can help you outplay even experienced players. By incorporating these advanced strategies into your gameplay, you can increase your chances of success in intense battles.

Then, you can build the wall again and can finish them. The last is side and bottom piece control. If you’re pressuring a wall, lots of players will go out either the side or the bottom of their builds. You can often predict this by their movement and get the close wall in a cone down in their box before they even realize. Tip next, try to get lower ping. Not everyone can live in Dallas and get zero ping. But there’s other things you can do. One is using an Ethernet cable and making sure that’s the active connection.

One is seeing if better internet plans near you got cheaper because prices usually change every year and sometimes you can even get upgraded for free if you just call them. And in addition to all of this, you’ll want to try Exit Lag. So, let me first say that Exit Lag simply lowers your ping. How it’s helped me is I moved from Iowa to Arkansas last year. I got over 500 miles closer to Dallas, so I thought I’d automatically get lower ping. But I was disappointed when I set up my fiber internet only to have the same 30 to 40 ping I had in Iowa.

It made absolutely no sense. Well, after a couple weeks, I tried exit lag and it instantly cut me down to zero ping in creative and 5 to 15 ping in game. And this graphic explains how it works perfectly. Some internet providers send your signal on a jagged route to its destination, but Exit Lag will put it on the most direct path, and that often results in way less ping. I’m being 100% honest when I say I use Exit Lag every single time I play Fortnite.

Otherwise, I’m playing on 15 to 30 ping higher than I need to be.

So, you need to constantly remind yourself or even write it down on a piece of paper in front of you while you play. For example, my autopilot gameplay doesn’t use a lot of peace control. I like to just rely on my aim and play lazily.

Improving Your Fortnite Skills

But when I go into a game and say, “This game, I’m going to use peace control on every opponent, and I remember that throughout the game, all of a sudden, I get way better at Fighting.”

Most Fortnite players reject change. Once we’re skilled with a certain item or mechanic, we don’t want to have to learn a new one. But that’s what Fortnite is. Every season there’s something new you have to learn to be able to compete. And the faster you embrace change and dive into these new items and strategies, the sooner you can use them to your advantage, while those stubborn players that won’t adapt will fall behind.

Learn the new glitches. And I’m not talking about gamebreaking glitches like making yourself invisible or banable glitches. I’m talking about strategies like the flying cars in Chapter 2 OG, the sword movement in chapter 6, season 1, the car pickaxe strategy from Nitro season. You can learn these kinds of things by following creators like Reese Hub, Destiny, and Aiantics on Twitter usually, and Fortnite usually takes weeks or even months to patch these. In fact, the car pickaxing strategy still works today, yet most players still don’t even know about it.

Rarely change your sensitivity. Across the board, controller and keyboard pros don’t change their sensitivities. The current best controller pro, Re, has had nearly identical settings dating all the way back 5 years ago to chapter 2, season 2. In the current best keyboard pro, Peterbot, has had almost identical mouse settings for just as long. The reason pros do this is muscle memory. After thousands of hours of playing on the same sense, Peterbot unconsciously knows the exact distance he has to move his arm to do a 180 flick. Re knows the exact path he has to move his thumbs to do a peace control move. These guys have been using these same settings for so long that they could close their eyes and do quad edits. But as soon as they change their settings, that path for Reese’s thumbs changes. That distance Peter has to move his arm changes.

1v one players that are better than you. Fighting good players is frustrating, but it’s a foolproof way to improve. Slowly but surely, you’ll start to catch on to advanced moves this player uses and not only learn how to block them, but you’ll naturally learn how to do them yourself. And in the same way, your bad moves will get exposed by good players. Like if you have a habit of leaving your head unprotected, they’re going to shoot you every time. So naturally, you’ll start protecting your head more. You can find skilled players to one v one in Discords or sometimes random matchmaking or just ask your most skilled friend and try to do this as much as possible. This is also a great zero delay 1v one map you can use.

Have a great mentality.

Improving Your Gameplay Mentality

Every time you die, there’s something you can blame it on. Maybe that player has better ping and got your wall first try. Maybe it was a 1v2. Maybe this other player just hit a lucky shot. But that’s all coke. Every time you die, there’s something you could have done differently. And if you change your mentality from I’m just unlucky to what could I have done differently. You’ll improve so much faster and as a bonus, you’ll be more calm.

Play confidently. This tip is so simple, but it’s incredibly effective. If you run around a lobby and key everyone and simply act like you’re a really good player, everyone in the lobby believes it. Playing aggressively but still in a smart way causes opponents, even good ones, to mess up and give you an advantage. And even if you lose a fight by playing confidently, which will happen a lot. Hopefully, you’ll realize how much better you played compared to if you were hiding or playing scared in a box.

Try crazy plays. This is part of playing confidently because if you’re playing freely and having fun, it often leads to your best fighting. This happens when you try crazy plays like a really long piece control edit course, going for no scopes, going for a crazy movement play. Many players think they have to play perfectly to win, but you’d be surprised at how often these crazy plays actually work.

Learn how to counter damage. This is one of the most important methods to beating good players. In many fights, you will be the first to get lasered or get hit hard and you need to heal, but the other player won’t stop applying pressure. Besides a third party coming in or really making a maze with your boxes, the only true way to get time to heal is counter damage. And Peterbot is the king at this. Even if you only have 10 HP, be confident and take a pre-fire or make an edit on them and do damage. As soon as you’re able to do damage back, this instantly changes the fight and almost always they will back off to heal, allowing you time to also heal.

Attack the best players in the lobby. When you have a good player in your lobby, it’s pretty obvious. They usually have the medallion, their name constantly shows up in the kill feed, and you can see them winging players. Sitting back and letting them W key you is almost a guaranteed death because they have all the confidence in know you’re scared to fight. So instead, you need to be the one to key them, preferably as a third party.

Advanced Fortnite Tips

And you’d be surprised at how often you actually win these fights.Keep your shotgun out. While it is important to know the basics of peace control, you don’t need to full box a player to deal damage. In fact, against most players, even good ones, they never expect you to just have your shotgun out and ready to shoot. Lots of players will edit right onto you or open a wall as soon as you get close. And you can deal a lot of damage by just being ready to shoot.

Play tournaments. Not everyone is trying to get better to become a pro, but playing tournaments puts you up often against top tier players. It involves deep thought into your strategy, where you’ll drop, where you’ll rotate, and it puts you in high pressure situations. All of these things I just listed can seriously improve your gameplay with enough experience. Plus, it can be fun.

VOD review pros. This one is more for competitive players, but you can watch the replay file of pros tournaments and see exactly what they do. So, you can go to Peterbot’s latest tournament, see how he drops, see what his loadouts are, and try to understand why he rotates a certain way in Endgame, see how many mats he has left when he goes for a refresh. This is an incredibly useful feature that you can learn a lot from.

Follow updates and read patch notes. Fortnite used to post patch notes and everyone read them, learning what was new and what change. But then they stopped posting them for a few years. Now few players know that the Fortnite website actually has a news section detailing nearly every change made and staying up to date on details keeps you informed of what the best current strategies are.

Try to get at least 120 FPS console. To be a truly good Fortnite player in 2025, I think you need at least a console that runs 120 FPS. I know some players are stuck on 60 fps and aren’t old enough to work or there’s other circumstances, but upgrading to at least 120 FPS console or especially a good PC is probably the easiest way to instantly improve.

Learn a new input. I’ve personally learned how to play Fortnite on no claw, no paddles. I spent a week learning how to play on claw. I’ve spent 5 years getting good on paddles, and I spent a week learning keyboard and mouse. These are fun ways to not only understand Fortnite deeper, but also kind of spark a new fun challenge that can be useful. After learning claw for only a week, people were telling me I was better than I am on paddles and I should switch to claw permanently. And same thing for keyboard and mouse. So try to learn a new way to play as a challenge.

Improving Skills through Daily Freebuilding

And who knows, you might just find out that you’re actually a better player. Players underestimate how powerful daily repetition is, and freebuilding is the easiest way to do that. Every day whenever you’re bored watching YouTube, watching a show, just boot up this map and build around.
