Razor currently sits at the highest win rate in all of Dota 2. His strength comes from a combination of recent buffs to his E and a core item build that has become exceptionally strong. In the pro scene, Razor is a first-phase pick or ban for most teams, so you rarely see him because of how dominant he is.

Why Guardian Greaves Is Broken on Razor

Against heavy magic damage, Pipe is the choice; against physical damage (e.g. Terror Blade), Crimson is the answer. BKB is an option when the enemy has mixed damage or heroes like Clockwerk where you need to run out of Cogs. Later, Manta Style gives a second dispel and helps versus Cogs and silences; Sange and Yasha is often better in general because it amplifies regen and pairs well with Greaves, Pipe, and Crimson. Shiva’s Guard is a solid late option versus physical carries. Nullifier no longer purges Greaves, Pipe, or Crimson, which makes this tank build much safer in the late game.

Farming and Ult Usage

Razor’s ult is one of his best farming tools. Use it off cooldown when the map is calm. Only hold it if the enemy is about to dive your tier one and it is coming back soon. When farming camps with Plasma Field, stand at max range—the edge of the ability deals the most damage—and try to hit two camps at once to save mana and time. You cannot farm ancients efficiently without your ult; use it to accelerate and then join fights when it is back up.

Team Fight and Positioning

Before you have Greaves and at least one aura item, play defensively. Razor’s base HP is low and he dies easily even with Mekansm. Once you have Greaves plus Pipe or Crimson—or all three tank items—you can frontline and take contact.

• Avoid being initiated on before you have multiple items. Prefer to go in yourself, get E procs, pop Greaves, then kite out.
• When linking, usually link the target in front of you and stick on them; at max Link in the late game, try to link the enemy carry when possible.
• After a fight, the Greaves active heals you to full quickly. The cooldown is short; you can also use it for mana when farming in a safe area.

In fights, do not sprint into five heroes blindly. Wait for an opportunity, then commit. With Greaves, Pipe, and Crimson you can stand in the middle of the fight, proc Storm Surge, and let your auras and items do the work while your team follows up.

Matchups and Draft

Razor excels versus melee heroes. In mid, safe lane, or offlane, look for melee matchups—you can dominate most of them if you do not overextend. Underlord is one of the worst matchups into Razor. Muerta is strong against him because she can push him away during Link. Clockwerk is a direct answer to Guardian Greaves heroes: Razor cannot purge Cogs or Battery Assault. When playing carry Razor, the build is still valid if your offlaner is greedy (e.g. Wraith King with Radiance); you provide the tank and control while they scale.
