WoW Midnight Class Changes Overview
World of Warcraft: Midnight introduces a significant class redesign. Blizzard is pruning abilities, reducing buff and proc tracking, and consolidating power into fewer, more impactful spells. The goal is clearer rotations and a more approachable experience for both new and returning players.
Simplification and Pruning
Across all classes, expect fewer buttons, removed talents, and passive effects replacing active maintenance. Snapshotting is reduced; baseline damage is higher. The stat squish and UI overhaul further support a cleaner, more readable game.
Druid Changes
Druids receive substantial updates across Balance, Feral, and Guardian. The class remains versatile and competitive in both PvE and PvP.
Balance Druid
- Eclipse is now a button you press: 15-second duration, 30-second cooldown, two charges via talents. Solar or lunar depends on your last filler (Wrath vs Starfire).
- Sunfire and Moonfire no longer boost other abilities; they are simple DoTs again.
- Stellar Flare, Waning Twilight, and Warrior of Elune removed. Base rotational spells deal more damage.
- Apex talents add eclipse-driven burst: instant Wrath/Starfire, Solar/Lunar bolts, and a crit-based Languish DoT.
Feral Druid
Feral is simplified for easier play. Snapshotting is tied only to Tiger’s Fury and Prowl; Bloodtalons removed. Focus shifts to maintaining bleeds, building combo points, and spending them. Brutal Slash and Adaptive Swarm are gone. Rampant Ferocity now makes Ferocious Bite cleave by default. A new AoE ability, Frantic Frenzy, uses a flicker mechanic: you dash to nearby targets and claw them five times, gaining combo points. Guardian Druid
Guardian focuses on smoothing rage generation and spending. Overlapping defensives are less critical; baseline abilities are stronger. Survival Instincts has two charges baseline; Berserk reduces Frenzied Regeneration cooldown by 100%. New tools include Waking Nightmares (shadow apparitions copying Thrash), Red Moon replacing Moonfire with higher damage, and Sundering Roar for burst AoE. Evoker and Hunter Updates
Evokers and Hunters receive targeted changes. Augmentation is rebalanced; Devastation gains quality-of-life. Hunters get streamlined specs and better raid utility.

Ebon Might grants 8% primary stat (up from 5%) and applies to all damage dealers within 100 yards; the effect splits between recipients. Warlock and Priest
Warlocks and Shadow Priest return to classic DoT and spender gameplay with less ramp and fewer maintenance buffs.
Affliction, Demonology, Destruction
- Affliction: Malefic Rapture removed. Unstable Affliction and Seed of Corruption are main spenders. Up to five Unstable Afflictions per target. Haunt and DoT maintenance simplified.
- Demonology: No energy mechanic. Hand of Gul’dan becomes Eye of Gul’dan at max imps for higher single-target damage. Vile Fiend rolled into Dreadstalkers talent.
- Destruction: New Infernal mechanics; Foul Mouth spreads curse effects in AoE. Demonic Gateway can be used twice via talent.
Shadow Priest
Shadow receives major cleanup. Dark Ascension, Last Word, Psychic Horror, and Void Torrent removed. Devouring Plague renamed; Void Eruption becomes Void Form and Void Volley. Shadow Crash is redesigned as Tentacle Slam. Shadowy Apparitions no longer spawn from Mind Blast or Void Bolt but deal double base damage. Apex talents add more apparition spawns and Void Bolt procs.

PvP Tier Overview
PvP rankings have shifted with recent balance changes. Subtlety Rogue, Unholy DK, and Windwalker Monk remain top melee. Assassination Rogue climbed to A tier. Arms and Fury Warriors underperform; Feral sits above warriors. Ret Paladin and Survival Hunter are strong.
Melee and Healers

Feral offers strong sustained and burst AoE, good priority target damage, utility, and tankiness. The main weakness is single-target output. With a single-target buff, Feral could become a staple in physical comps alongside Brewmaster and Fury Warrior. Balance Druid is frequently underestimated. It still performs well in Mythic+ across big and small pulls; single target is not the worst. Balance has received multiple buffs and remains a viable pick.
