Destiny 2 Beginner’s Power Leveling Guide: From 10 to 450
Welcome! My name is Librarian Husky. The new Edge of Fate DLC is changing how we approach power leveling. Everyone starts at power level 10, meaning all players are on an even playing field. From here, the journey to power level 450 involves understanding the soft cap, seasonal cap, and portal system for efficient progression.
Reaching the Soft Cap
From level 10 to 200, gaining power is fairly easy. Every drop you earn should slowly raise your level. Completing the Edge of Fate campaign on Kepler, even on brave difficulty, provides plenty of drops. Running the legendary campaign can boost you to around level 100, which is also the highest level useful for contest raids.
Legendary Campaign and Challenges
New players may find the legendary campaign intimidating. However, running it first is an excellent way to prepare for contest activities. It can also drop gear beyond level 100. Players can take advantage of communities or groups to complete challenging activities and push their progression further.
The Portal System
The new portal system is essential for reaching 200 power level. Bungie has removed daily and weekly caps, allowing unlimited grinding. The portal highlights daily featured activities that drop specific weapons or armor as bonus loot, enabling target farming for lagging gear slots.
Seasonal Cap Progression
Once you hit 200 power, normal drops stop helping. At this stage, you must work toward the seasonal cap. The portal becomes central, with featured activities dropping bonus loot. The seasonal hub also provides powerful engrams, armor requisition tokens, and arsenal credits that can be exchanged for gear and weapons.
Unstable Cores and Infusion Costs
To advance beyond 200 power, you’ll need unstable cores. These mainly come from dismantling gear above 200. Infusion costs rise as the power gap increases between two pieces of gear, making careful upgrading important. Moving from 200 to 250 requires more resources than smaller upgrades like 200 to 210.
Difficulty Scaling
Portal activities allow customization with checkpoints: normal at 10, advanced at 100, expert at 200, master at 300, and grandmaster at 400. Some previews show ultimate at 500, though not confirmed. Challenge modifiers can make content harder, but greater difficulty increases rewards, with some even disabling your HUD.
Optimizing Rewards
The activity forecast displays your predicted rewards. Increasing difficulty boosts your drops significantly, with advanced settings raising gear levels. Farming portal activities steadily improves your gear and unlocks access to harder challenges, which in turn grant even higher power level rewards.
Freedom in Power Leveling
Power leveling in Destiny 2 is now more player-dependent, allowing farming of any activity for any length of time. You can even reach the seasonal cap by exclusively playing PvP. Just ensure you use the portal and select activities marked to drop the gear you need.
Final Thoughts
The system may feel different, but once understood, it’s straightforward. Whether through campaign runs, portal farming, or seasonal rewards, the journey to 450 is flexible and rewarding. Edge of Fate offers new opportunities for all players to grow stronger in the world of Destiny 2.
