Hey everyone, Librarian Husky here, and welcome back to another guide. Dead Eye is once again one of the most popular and broken ascendancies in Path of Exile 2, and most specifically the Lightning Spear build.

Lightning Spear Dead Eye Endgame Build

We have already covered the Amazon Lightning Spear build with its own leveling and endgame guides, but today we will take a look at a very similar build, the Lightning Spear Dead Eye endgame build. This build can be used for early, mid, and late endgame depending on the available currency that you have to spend. But of course, I’m going to give you some alternatives too, so you can make this work with a cheaper budget.

Okay, so starting off with the abilities, we’ve got Spear Stab, which is a default ability that you get because you are wielding a spear. Spear Stab, we only use it for bosses. And what you do is you start with Spear Stab on the boss so you can get yourself some charges through the Sniper Mark which is going to be on Cast on Critical or you’re going to be using it manually. We’re going to cover that in a second. Spear Stab is an ability that you don’t need to use any Perfect Jeweler‘s Orb or Greater Jeweler’s Orb or anything like that. It will actually scale with your level. The higher level you are, the more slots will become available. For Spear Stab to work, we need a couple of support gems.

Starting off the first one with Marshall Tempo for 20% more attack speed because the faster you hit the boss with a stab, the faster you’re going to get yourself the charges. Second one, we’ve got Rage because this way you’re going to be building rage. It’s very quick and the more rage that you have, the more damage you’re going to deal. Third, we’ve got Blind, so you can potentially blind the boss. Then we’ve got Conduction for 100% more chance to shock, so you can shock the boss. And lastly, we’ve got Lightning Infusion, so we can get 25% of damage as extra lightning damage.

Next, we’ve got Lightning Spear, which is the main clearing ability here for mapping. Obviously, we throw the spear, it’s going to hit the target. Once it hits the target, it will actually spray a lot of lightning bolts. That is actually the cause that will destroy the entire screen. And the first gem and the biggest priority is Vault, obviously, because this one gives you Vaultike charges. The more you move, the more charges you get. And the more charges you have, the more damage you’re going to deal. So Vault is very important. Second, we’ve got Long Shot, so you can be able to deal 30% more attack damage the further away the target is because that’s the whole point of clearing the map. So you just throw it and it’s going to destroy the entire screen. Next, we’ve got Fork.

Lightning Spear Ability Setup

Fork is used to make the Spear fork after it hits a target, allowing it to hit multiple enemies at once. This is crucial for clearing packs efficiently. Following Fork, we use Chain to make the spear chain between enemies, ensuring that no target is left untouched. Another important support gem is Amplify, which increases the area of effect of the lightning bolts, making it easier to clear mobs. Lastly, we have Power Surge, which grants a chance to gain a power charge on critical strike, boosting our damage output significantly.

In terms of defensive capabilities, we rely on the Vaal Grace skill to provide a significant boost to our evasion rating, helping us avoid incoming damage. Additionally, Phase Run is used to increase our movement speed and grant us a chance to evade enemy hits, further enhancing our survivability. Pairing these defensive skills with our offensive abilities creates a well-rounded build that excels both in damage output and survivability on the battlefield.

Overall, the Lightning Spear Dead Eye endgame build offers a powerful and versatile playstyle that can adapt to various endgame scenarios. By optimizing your gem setups and skill rotations, you can unleash devastating attacks while effectively mitigating incoming threats. Whether you’re tackling challenging bosses or clearing maps at lightning speed, this build provides a thrilling and rewarding experience for Path of Exile players.

Optimizing Lightning Spear Build

Even though Lightning Spear says that it cannot fork, we’ve got the lightning bolts that will fork and deal even more damage. Then, we’ve got Primal Armorament for 25% weapon elemental damage. Lastly, there’s Deliberation. This gem provides a 20% damage boost but comes with a 30% movement speed penalty when using Lightning Spear, making it slower to throw the spear. You can choose to stick with Deliberation for increased damage or opt for Mount Raw, a spell that eliminates movement speed penalties.

Switching to Mount Raw requires adjustments, as it affects the spirit and overall functionality. Alternatively, there’s a second variation that incorporates Row Mount for smoother gameplay. Moving on, Wind Serpent’s Fury stands out as the key ability in this build, essential for defeating bosses. This ability consumes all frenzy charges to unleash a powerful attack, knocking back bosses. It’s recommended to use Wind Serpent Fury after setting up frenzy charges through spear stabbing and using Infernal Cry. Support gems like Blindside, Overextend, Twofold, Concentrated Effect, and Ambrosia enhance Wind Serpent’s performance significantly.

Enhancing Damage Output

To further boost damage output, consider strategic combinations of support gems like Lightning Bolt, Primal Armorament, and Deliberation. Each gem contributes uniquely to the build’s effectiveness, allowing for customization based on playstyle preferences. Experimenting with different configurations can optimize damage potential and overall performance. Additionally, incorporating Mount Raw or Row Mount introduces versatility by addressing movement speed penalties and enhancing maneuverability in combat scenarios. Ensuring the proper selection and placement of support gems is crucial for maximizing the efficiency of the Lightning Spear build.

Mastering Wind Serpent’s Fury

Among the various abilities in the build, Wind Serpent’s Fury stands out as a formidable tool for engaging bosses effectively. By strategically utilizing frenzy charges and coordinating actions such as Spear stabbing and Infernal Cry, players can unleash devastating attacks that disrupt enemy defenses. The synergy between Wind Serpent’s Fury and supporting gems like Blindside, Overextend, and Twofold enhances critical damage output and amplifies the impact of each strike. Properly integrating these elements into gameplay tactics is essential for mastering the Dead Eye Lightning Spear build and emerging victorious in challenging encounters.

Mana Flask Charges and Infernal Cry

If you can’t, then maybe you should prioritize Ambrosia over things like Overextend. But Ambrosia is very, very important because it consumes 20% of your mana flask charges and it deals 3% of damage as extra lightning damage per mana flask charge consumed. So in that case, our mana flask with this build becomes super important to have as high charges as you possibly can. For some reason Max roll does not count my actual charges. As you can see I do have 59% increased charges. I’ve got around 115 to 120 total charges on my mana flask which is really good. So, you want to make sure that you get something that has above 100 charges.

That said, we’re moving to the next spell, which is Infernal Cry. Now, something very important for this one is you don’t need to have it at max level. You can start at level five and then gradually improve it and level it up depending on the strength that you currently have. What Infernal Cry does, it simply empowers your attacks. So, this is the ability that I told you before that once you stab the boss and you have max charges, just before you hit them with a Wind Serpent Fury, you want to pop Infernal Cry and then use your Wind Serpent. The support gems that we care about here is Enrage War Cry, so we can consume 10 rage from the Spear Stab that we used before to deal even more damage. Next, we’ve got Raging Cry that gives us even more rage based on the power of counted enemies in range. Then we’ve got Second Wind, 50% less cooldown recovery rate, which is awesome. And lastly, we’ve got Premeditation for 15% more damage.

Next one is a very obvious one. The first aura that we’re going to look at here is Combat Frenzy, which is the main way that we get our charges when we are mapping. Combat Frenzy does nothing on bosses, just letting you know. And the support gem that we care about here is obviously Profusion. But Profusion, you will notice that we also have it on Cast on Critical. We’re going to talk about it in a second. But the reason I put two, not to confuse you, this means that you can swap them whenever you’re doing either content. For mapping, you want Profusion on Combat Frenzy. For bossing, you want Profusion on Cast on Critical. Simple stuff. Next, we’ve got Herold of Thunder. And Herold of Thunder, once again, is useful only for mapping, not for bossing. So, if you don’t have a lot of spirit, you can turn these two auras off whenever you’re doing bossing. And the support gems that we want here in order of priority are things like Intervate for an additional 35% of damage as lightning damage.

Building the Right Setup

Then we need Electrocute and Neural Overlord so we can actually build up electrocution because this is the only way that we’re going to be getting charges when we’re mapping. Next, we’ve got Ambush for 100% more critical hit chance. And lastly, Deadly Herold, which is simply going to increase the damage that Herold of Thunder deals by 30% more damage, but it does reserve 20 spirit.

Next, we’ve got Cast on Critical, and it’s almost mandatory for bosses. So, this is an automatic way for you to gain charges when you’re bossing. Now, the support gems that we want on this, as I said, we want the ability Sniper Mark. Then, we need Ingenuity for 30% cooldown recovery rate into Inspiration, so it can cost 30% less. And lastly, as I said, Profusion, so you can be able to get more charges.

Defensive Auras for Protection

The next two auras are our defensive auras, Wind Dancer and Ghost Dance. Ghost Dance simply gives you a couple of shrouds for energy shield which is really, really good based on the evasion that we’re going and you’re going to see the gear in a second. We’re actually doing a hybrid version of the gear with evasion and energy shield. The support gem in here is simply going to be Fast Forward.

Wind Dancer is a very, very important one because it knocks back your enemies whenever they hit you and it gives you a ton of evasion. Really good aura to run in any kind of content. The support gems we want here to do a little bit of extra work with Wind Dancer is Unbreakable so we can get some stun thresholds on both light and heavy stuns. Then we have Mim for extra CC. Then we’ve got Arms Length for 40% more knockback distance on Wind Dancer. And lastly, Magnified Effect. So the effect of the knockback could be even more.

Now if you want to use the chicken to mount up and just run around and not care about any penalties or anything, I do have a second variation here. Now, the only difference that you will notice here from variation one and two is that obviously Row Mount is in there, which is a simple minion that’s going to help you fight. So, if you’re not mounted on the chicken, it’s going to actually help you kill stuff. But if you mount it, then you will not suffer any kind of movement penalty whenever you’re using your abilities. That’s the only movement speed benefit that you get from the Row Mount. It does not increase your movement speed and it does not prevent the decrease of movement speed that we get through the gear. The last thing that you should know about the Row Mount is that if you’re mounted and you get stunned, then it’s a heavy stun and it’s going to take you a while to get your senses back. So, there are a lot of chances for you to die. A lot of people are cheesing that death by skipping to the login screen and going back in. But again, if it’s something that you want to deal with, deal with it. Have the chicken.

Gem Setup and Build Variations

It’s a nice feeling. Personally, I don’t like it that much. But the support gems that you want on this is Loyalty for 10% of damage from hits is taken from the companion’s life before yours, which is pretty decent. Then we have Minion Mastery to empower it a little bit more. Elemental Army for the 30% to all elemental resistances to make it a little bit stronger. And lastly, Meat Shield for 35% less damage.

Now, the difference in this build is because Raw Mount reserves 60 spirit, we cannot effectively run Cast on Critical. Therefore, Sniper Mark needs to be on its own, which means that whenever you’re facing bosses, you will need to apply that manually. Alternatively, what you could do is you can disable or deactivate the Row Mount, Herold of Thunder, and Combat Frenzy. And you can also have Cast on Critical like before in your abilities, but you will always need to manually deactivate and activate your abilities. And the reason why I’m saying to deactivate Row Mount is because it’s not amazing on bosses either. But these are the two variations that I’ve tried out and they work perfectly fine.

So, how we’re going to do this is we’re going to split into two different categories. The rare gear and the uniques. But starting off with the rares. As I said before, we are doing a hybrid build. So, the most important thing for me is to make sure that we’re tanky enough to be able to do all content. So, my helmet looks something like this. It’s a full energy shield helmet. It covers my fire and cold resistances so I can be able to cap them, and it gives me a good chunk of intelligence.

The reason I’m going for more intelligence is because, as you can see, I’m running with a unique scepter, the chicken leg, or otherwise known as sacred flame. And it actually needs a lot of intelligence. That’s why I’m looking for intelligence on some pieces of my gear. Next, we’ve got the chest. We’ve got over 1,000 evasion on it and 400 energy shield. We’re covering as much resistance as we possibly can with a little bit of chaos resistance in there as well. Next, on the gloves, we’ve got flat physical damage and flat lightning damage. We do have critical damage bonus and then of course our fire and lightning resistance. Next, we’ve got the boots that you want to focus on. 35% movement speed for sure.

Gear and Unique Items

It has energy shield on there, intelligence, and cold resistance. You can swap the rarity for another resistance if you’re struggling with capping your resistances. Finally, we’ve got the two rings. One of them has flat physical, flat cold, and flat lightning, dexterity, and intelligence. and the other one has flat fire, flat lightning, dexterity, intelligence, and a lot of lightning resistance. What you could do instead is if you cannot find fire, you can have physical in there. That’s absolutely fine. If you cannot find both attributes, you could just have one. Or instead of dexterity, you can look for strength on one of your rings. So, you can then be able to respec the strength nodes on your passive tree back to dexterity.

Now, moving on to the second part is looking at all the uniques that you might want to look for in this build. My current tangle tongue, as you can see, has two sockets in there that you put the critical damage bonus on, which gives you 24% extra to what we already have. But the most important part is the critical hit chance at the bottom. As you can see right here, mine is at 19.97%.

This is the closest that I could have gotten to 20% that I could afford. Moving on, the second most important item in this build, the chicken leg that we said before. Mine is currently at 55% extra fire damage, which is the main stat that makes this scepter a godly item to have because it simply gives you even more damage to your build. If you want to get my Ingenuity belt that has 16% reduced charm charges, 30% on the left ring, and 26 on the right one with 23% fire resistance, it’s currently priced at one divine. For those who want to run the head hunters, it’s an amazing option for mapping. However, the cheapest version right now in the market is a 22 divine. You can go for the beacon of ais solar amulet, which is going to cost you one divine for the item already being anointed and have an enchant on it, or go for a rare amulet with mods like energy shield, spirit, critical hit chance, critical damage bonus, and levels to projectiles. If you go for the unique amulet, then the value you’re getting will come out cheaper for you. It’s going to give you all the lightning penetration that you need, so you don’t need to invest in things in the passive tree or extra jewels. And it also gives you the spirit that you need.

And speaking of the amulets, you can consider a couple of options for anointment. Number one, storm charge. This gives you 40% increased elemental damage if you’ve dealt a critical hit recently and 20% increased critical hit chance. You can choose to go for overwhelming strike, which is really, really good as well. It increases 20% of critical hit chance, 20% of critical damage bonus, and gives you 20% more stun buildup with critical hits. If you don’t care about the damage and you want more defense, you can go for things like patient barrier that gives you 60% increased maximum energy shield.

Ascendancy in the Passive Skill Tree

Now, with that all covered and done, let’s look at the ascendancy in the passive skill tree. Ascendancy is pretty straightforward. On the left side, we put all four points all the way to wind ward because this gives us Tailwind. What Tailwind does, it’s a buff. While you’re moving and attacking, you’re getting Tailwind stacks. So, you can increase your movement speed, your skill speed, and evasion rating for 10 seconds up until you actually get hit.

Next, and the most important one is going all the way to the right side for thrilling chase. What it does, it makes abilities that consume frenzy charges behave as if they’re consuming twice the frenzy charges, which is what makes the serpent ability actually one-shot the bosses. And to extend this and make it even more powerful. This is what we’re going to be focusing on our passive skill tree.

As you can see here, very very quickly, I’m going to go over some of the basic stuff. For example, we need savagery so we can get an additional maximum to the frenzy charges. We get more frenzy charges with frenetic. Then we’re going to go for even more frenzy charges with fervor as well.

And then the others are pretty basic stuff. We’re going to go for some defense with escape velocity. We’re going for cooked. I’m currently not doing it right now because I don’t want my defenses dropping. I think this you can leave it for like the final node whenever you get to like 94 or something like that.

Then we have things like catalysis into maiming strike. We go all the way up here for all the crit nodes. We get some more attack damage here and a lot of defensive notes. And of course, we go all the way up here for the crits and the jewel. That’s very important as well as finishing all of these clusters of crit.

Optimizing Your Passive Skill Tree

When optimizing your passive skill tree, it’s crucial to focus on key nodes that enhance your build’s strengths. Prioritize Tailwind and thrilling chase for increased movement speed and damage output. Additionally, investing in savagery, frenetic, and fervor will amplify your frenzy charges, providing significant boosts to your abilities.

To bolster your defense, consider allocating points to escape velocity and other defensive nodes. Planning your skill tree progression strategically, such as saving certain nodes for higher levels, can optimize your character’s performance as you progress through the game. Don’t overlook critical nodes like catalysis and maiming strike to further enhance your damage-dealing capabilities. Remember, a well-structured skill tree is key to maximizing your character’s potential.
