Upon spawning, selling gold, acquiring coal, and utilizing your sack to hold up to 10 items are initial tasks. Press F while holding the sack to collect coal efficiently. With $10 remaining, investing in an additional bandage at the clinic is wise for future needs. Don’t overlook the newspapers near the starting point; they serve a purpose later on.

When onboard the train, start by unloading your bag, fueling the fire with coal, and securing your train with newspapers. These newspapers can also function as emergency fuel or as protective armor for your train. Position them where desired and use Z to secure them in place. This prevents teammates from easily disembarking.

As you set off, keep an eye on the buildings beside the tracks. They hold essential supplies, such as valuables, extra fuel, and sometimes weapons. While zombies guard these locations, your weapon is crucial for defense. Regular stops for looting are necessary to gather supplies and fuel; even zombie bodies can serve as fuel.

Upon reaching 10,000 M, you’ll enter a safe area resembling the initial spawn point. These towns are vital for progression. Sell valuables, restock supplies, and buy necessities at each stop. Nightfall typically coincides with your arrival; stay in safe areas at night to avoid enemy attacks. Auto turrets in these areas provide defense against werewolves, vampires, and zombies that spawn at night. Utilize this time to gather bodies for selling at trading posts.

There is one building that I have not talked about yet, the sheriff’s building. It’s used to sell Bandit bodies. Bandits are Another enemy type you’ll encounter, riding out in the open armed with guns. Avoid them until you have your own guns and plenty of ammo because they are very deadly. Despite the danger, they are worth fighting for the high monetary value of their bodies.

You’ll also find Bandit camps occasionally, providing guns, ammo, and Bandit bodies to sell. These bandits also have ridable horses, faster than running, which can be valuable assets for your journey.

Another building type you’ll come across are abandoned towns on fire. Avoid these until you have sufficient guns, ammo, and medical supplies as they are extremely dangerous but offer valuable loot. You’ll also find items like chairs, armor plates, and barbed wire to fortify your train, crucial for survival, especially during solo runs. Strengthening your train is as important as gearing up yourself.

Driving at night can be perilous, especially if you run out of fuel or face overwhelming attacks. Avoid stopping the train as being caught in the open at night is highly dangerous. By consistently moving, you can minimize risks. After several nights and safe areas, you should have stocked up on ammo, medical supplies, and possibly armor for yourself and your train. Understanding the gameplay loop is essential, but challenging areas with high rewards await, like abandoned towns and castles, which are the most treacherous locations in the game.

Abandoned towns offer valuable loot but are infested with hordes of zombies and enemies. Some towns may have a bank with a vault requiring a code from unique zombies. Entering a castle is perilous as each room spawns tough enemies. Nighttime exploration is extremely risky; only stop if necessary or in a safe area. Continuously moving is advisable, even if you have companions.

Survival Tips for Dead Rails

Unless you have multiple people or are just insane at the game with crazy weapons, you’re just not going to survive. However, there are really good expensive items that you can’t find if you’re actually able to survive this though. Again, not super essential to progression, just an extra if you’re willing to risk it.

From here, the loop is fairly self-explanatory and you can mostly just coast as long as you’re careful. Just keep an eye out for things such as fuel and gather as many items as you can, armor your train, armor yourself, loot buildings, keep an eye on the time and your fuel, and just keep moving as much as possible. And you’ll be able to keep yourself alive until you finally reach your final stop, the bridge.

Just before the bridge, there is another safe area. There are no shops, there are no trading areas, it’s just a final area covered with Bandits that you’ll have to fight off. So, you’ll want to keep in mind about the 70,000 mark is going to be the last stop that you’ll have before the 880,000 mark where the ending is.

This area is going to be covered in Bandits and this is particularly where things like the Maxum gun can be extremely useful. Otherwise, having a rifle with loads of ammo will do great as well. Just make sure that you have bandages and snake oil to heal up once you actually defeat the initial wave. Definitely go around and loot the buildings because sometimes stuff does spawn in there, including the Monopoly-looking money type thing and even, weirdly enough, a Karar 98k.

However, this is just the beginning of your troubles. Once you go to actually lower the bridge, a huge wave of like everything starts to spawn. I got unlucky in this play and it was night time, so everything was after me. It was super loud, it was super chaotic, I honestly thought I was going to die. Yeah, it was pretty terrifying. But after the timer’s up, Bam, you win. You did a fantastic freaking job. Thank God we armored up that train and we’re on our way back to the lobby.

Now that you’ve got a handful of those mystery dollery dues, you can go to various shops in the lobby, buy some single-life items, the most useful of which is probably going to be any of the guns.
