Molly: What is a Molly in FPS games like CS2 or Valorant?
In first-person shooters like CS2 and Valorant, a “molly” is one of those must-have tools that can really change the course of a game. If you know how and when to use it, it can give you a serious edge in both planning and execution.
What’s a Molly?
A molly—short for Molotov or incendiary grenade—is a throwable item that creates a patch of fire when it lands. Anyone caught standing in the flames takes damage over time. It’s mainly used to block off areas or make certain spots dangerous for enemies to move through.
In CS2, the Terrorist side gets Molotov cocktails, while Counter-Terrorists have incendiary grenades. They work pretty much the same way. In Valorant, some agents have abilities that serve the same purpose. These abilities are also often called mollies, even though they’re unique to each character.
Using Mollies in CS2
Mollies in CS2 are extremely versatile and can swing a round in your favor if used right. Here are a few common ways players put them to work:
- Controlling Choke Points: Tossing a molly into a narrow passage can slow down or stop enemy pushes entirely, forcing them to take a different path or wait it out. This gives your team time to reposition or set up a defense.
- Forcing Enemies Out: Got a hunch someone’s hiding in a corner? A well-placed molly can flush them out, making them easier to pick off once they’re exposed.
- Delaying the Defuse: After planting the bomb, players will often use a molly to delay any defuse attempts. Throwing fire onto the bomb site can burn away valuable seconds and either secure the win or buy time for teammates to react.
How Mollies Work in Valorant
In Valorant, mollies aren’t grenades—they’re part of specific agents’ abilities, each with their own twist:
- Phoenix – Hot Hands: He throws a ball of fire that bursts on impact, damaging enemies and healing himself if he stands in it.
- Viper – Snake Bite: She shoots a chemical canister that leaves behind a pool of acid, hurting anyone who stands in it.
- Brimstone – Incendiary: He launches a grenade that leaves a burning area, damaging anyone caught in the flames.
Why Mollies Matter
Whether in CS2 or Valorant, mollies are crucial for controlling how fights unfold. They limit where enemies can go, disrupt their strategies, and can buy critical time during intense moments.
