Season 14 continues to surprise players with its substantial updates, and the upcoming Patch 14.4 is no exception. This significant patch is set to introduce more than 30 updates, including adjustments to 20 different champions. Slated for release on February 21st, this patch promises to bring a fresh wave of dynamics to the game.
Item Adjustments in Patch 14.4
The upcoming update brings an exciting enhancement to the Black Cleaver, elevating its armor reduction per stack from 4% to a more formidable 5%. Furthermore, the stack mechanism is being streamlined, reducing from six to five for a more impactful experience. Notably, the recipe for crafting Black Cleaver will see a revision, with Kindle Gem and Long Sword making way for C Fields and Ruby Crystal, introducing a fresh dynamic to its construction.
In addition to these adjustments, the patch introduces an improvement to Fountain regeneration, boosting the health recovery rate from 8.4% to 10.4% of maximum health, enhancing players’ resilience during gameplay. Mage-centric gear isn’t left behind, as a select range of items, including Malignant’s Luden’s Companion and Archangel’s, will see an increase in ability haste, rising from 20 to 25, promising a more agile spellcasting experience.
Specific Item Enhancements
In recent updates, Profane Hydra has overshadowed Ravenous Hydra among bruiser champions. To address this, Patch 14.4 introduces a significant tweak to Ravenous Hydra, enhancing its active effect to now incorporate 150% of the player’s lifesteal, elevating its utility in combat scenarios.
Stridebreaker is undergoing another revision in this patch. Its passive component will now grant movement speed benefits regardless of whether the inflicted damage is absorbed or negated. Moreover, the duration of the movement speed decrease following activation is being extended from the previous 1.5 seconds to a more lenient 3 seconds, offering greater strategic flexibility.
Terminus Update: Streamlined Stacking and Enhanced Crafting in Patch 14.4
The update brings significant refinements to Terminus, focusing on making its stacking mechanism more user-friendly. The requirement for full efficacy has been reduced from five to three stacks, enabling players to reach the item’s maximum benefits more rapidly.
In line with the stacking adjustments, there’s a recalibration of the resistances offered per stack. This ensures that players receive more defensive benefits during the early stages of stacking, although there will be a slight reduction in these benefits in the later stages. Furthermore, the item will now provide increased penetration per stack, while maintaining the maximum penetration cap, thus speeding up the rate at which players can achieve peak efficiency with Terminus.
Complementing these mechanical changes, the item’s crafting recipe is also being updated. The substitution of Dagger for Recurve Bow in the recipe subtly alters the item’s stat contributions and its strategic role, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
Rune Adjustments
There’s just one rune being nerfed for this patch, with Lethal Tempo losing power on melee champions. This change aims to balance the rune’s performance across different champion types and ensure a fair competitive environment.
Champion and Item Updates in Patch 14.4
Adjustments in the upcoming patch include a modification to the attack speed bonus per stack, decreasing from a range of 9% to 13.5% down to 5% scaling up to 16%. This alteration will result in a decrease in early game power but an enhancement in later stages. Additionally, Hubus will undergo an update in this patch, with a focus on refining its visual presentation.
The camera angle for the red side is also set for a revision in Patch 14.4, aimed at providing an expanded view of the lower portion of the screen for players. Furthermore, the patch introduces several updates to support items. Notably, the timing for the initial gold proc will be advanced to 1 minute and 50 seconds from the previous 2 minutes and 8 seconds, facilitating earlier access to the first gold proc. However, the interval for subsequent procs will increase slightly from 18 to 20 seconds, leading to a more gradual accumulation of gold as the game progresses.
Support Item and Champion Adjustments
The upcoming patch will introduce several modifications to support item upgrades. Specifically, the ranged damage amplification of Bloodsong will be reduced from 6% to 5%. Additionally, the movement speed bonus provided by Solsa Slay will be altered from a static 90 to a percentage-based 30%, with its effect duration decreasing from 4 seconds to 3 seconds. The healing effect is also being revised, moving from a flat 80 to 7% of maximum health.
In terms of offensive capabilities, Zak’s realm spike will undergo a notable decrease in base damage, dropping from 50 to 20. To balance this, the ability power (AP) scaling will be enhanced from 15% to 20%, and the damage based on the target’s maximum health will increase from 3% to 4%. Furthermore, the cooldown period for this ability at the initial level is being reduced from 9 seconds to 8 seconds, potentially increasing its utility in early game skirmishes.
Talent and Range Updates for Selected Champions
Riot has stated that a plethora of champions will have their talents updated to instantly snap when exceeding max range. These champions include Atro, Fiddlesticks, Illaoi, Karma, CL, LeBlanc, Morana, Rata Glas, and Zac. Fiddlesticks’ W range will be increased from 700 to 725 to compensate for this change.
Champion Buffs and Adjustments
This patch is set to enhance the abilities of eight champions significantly. Leading the charge is AI, with an improvement in health growth from 96 to 104. The ability power (AP) ratio of AI’s Q ability is also receiving a boost, moving from 45% to a solid 50%.
Jayce is another champion receiving a series of buffs; his base attack damage (AD) is being increased from 57 to 59. Enhancements are also being made to his melee W, both in terms of mana restoration and base damage output. Additionally, a new functionality will be added to Jayce’s E, enabling it to snare targets upon casting, similar to Ion’s R, thereby enhancing the spell’s reliability.
Kai’Sa, who has been underperforming as an ADC in recent updates, is receiving a targeted buff to improve her standing. The range of her R ability is being extended from a 1500-3000 scale to a 2000-3000 scale, offering her a significant early game advantage, although the maximum range remains unchanged. Lulu is also on the list for enhancements, with adjustments planned for the damage output of her Q, aiming to bolster her gameplay impact in the upcoming patch.
Champion Buffs and Adjustments in Patch 14.4
In this update, the secondary strike’s potency is being doubled, soaring from 25% to a robust 50%. Additionally, the later stages of E ability will witness an increase in damage output, and the protective shield it provides is getting a boost across all levels, particularly noticeable at the peak tier. Renekton is set to receive a trio of improvements: an uptick in Q healing, a reduction in E ability cooldown during advanced stages, and an augmentation in the health bonus granted by his R ability.
Soraka finds herself among those receiving enhancements, with a notable acceleration in her passive movement speed towards allies, elevating from 70% to an impressive 90%. The healing effect of her Q is also being incremented by 10 across all levels, and the wait time for her R ability is being trimmed by 10 seconds universally.
Further Champion Enhancements
Thresh is poised to enjoy some significant upgrades, receiving a boost in his base armor from 28 to 31. Additionally, the base damage of his E ability will see an increase, although this enhancement will be more pronounced in the later stages of the game. Furthermore, the cooldown period of his R ability is being significantly reduced by 20 seconds across all ranks, promising more frequent use in battles.
Volibear stands out as potentially the biggest winner of the 14.4 patch, with a series of major enhancements lined up. The movement speed bonus from his Q ability is being amplified, shifting from a range of 8%-24% to a more robust 12%-32%. The cooldown for his E ability is being trimmed down from 13 seconds to 12, allowing for more agile engagement. Even more notably, his R ability’s cooldown is being slashed by a full 30 seconds at the first rank, and the ability’s capacity to disable turrets is being adjusted, now lasting from two to four seconds, down from the previous three to five seconds span.
Champion Nerfs and Adjustments
Riot overshot with the 14.3 Illaoi buffs, so they’re pulling back for 14.4. Tentacle base damage is actually going up from 9 scaling to 162 to 9 scaling to 182; however, the total AD ratio is being lowered from 115% to 100%. Some follow-up nerfs to Aurelion Sol are being issued this patch as the hotfix nerfs didn’t do quite enough to significantly reduce his power level. Q bonus magic damage per second is being reduced by five at all ranks, while the AP ratio is down from 35% to 30%.
Item and Specific Champion Changes
Bard’s dominance in early Season 14 prompts adjustments in Patch 14.4, including reduced armor growth and altered Meep damage, shifting from a tank to a more AP-centric build. Fiora’s W attack speed slow is halved to 25%, while Kalista sees a nerf in her E base damage, reflecting her pro play success. Maokai’s base armor and Q damage are reduced, with a more significant nerf to his R root at later ranks. Additionally, Hullbreaker’s mechanics are being revised to alter its stacking and bonus damage effects.
Item and Champion Changes in Patch 14.4
The transition from on-attack to on-hit effects in the upcoming patch is poised to impact Urgot’s performance with certain items. Varus is set to experience a slight decrease in base attack damage, moving from 62 to 60. Zyra will see a reduction in her plant damage output, adjusting from a scale of 20 to 88 down to 16 to 84, though her jungle play gets a slight boost with increased monster damage early on.
Significant Champion Adjustments
Camille is undergoing substantial changes in this patch, with her base health increasing to 625 and mana to 320. Her Q’s slow effect will be removed during her ultimate, while her W’s defensive ratios are getting a significant boost. Additionally, the speed of her E dash is being notably decreased, affecting both her personal and ally-assisted dashes.
Rexi’s Comprehensive Changes
Rexi is set for a comprehensive overhaul in Patch 14.4, with a mix of buffs and nerfs aimed at rebalancing gameplay. The champion’s base health regeneration and its growth are slated for reductions, while a boost in base movement speed from 335 to 340 aims to enhance mobility. Changes include a 50% reduction in Fury generation from minions, and the removal of the passive base heal feature.
Adjustments to Rexi’s abilities include a nerf to the damage of W when unburrowed, particularly at higher levels, alongside an introduction of an 80% AP scaling to this ability. The cooldown for Rexi’s unburrowed E is being decreased to 10 seconds, though its base damage will be eliminated, compensated by an increase in AD scaling from 75% to 100%. This ability will also shift to inflict damage based on a percentage of the target’s maximum health at full Fury.
Furthermore, the cooldown for Rexi’s burrowed E is receiving a significant cut, dropping to 18 seconds at the first rank. The cooldown for tunnels is being reduced as well, from 10 seconds to 6 at the initial rank, coupled with an increase in tunnel travel speed. Lastly, the bonus AD scaling on Rexi’s ultimate is being adjusted downwards from 175% to 100%, fine-tuning the champion’s late-game impact.
Adjustments to the Newest Champion
For the final change, we have adjustments to the newest champion in League, Smolder. Q number of missiles is being changed from 2 + 1 per 100 stacks to now 1 + 1.5 per 100 stacks. W cooldown is going up from 13 to 14 seconds at rank one, initial W base damage is dropping by 20 at rank 1 but is buffed by 20 at max rank, initial W AD ratio is nerfed as it’s being changed from a total AD ratio to now a bonus AD ratio, initial W AP ratio is dropping from 35% to 20%, W explosion damage will now scale with 25% bonus AD, and W explosion AP ratio is up as well, from 65% to 80%.
