In Rocket League, a “pinch shot” is a high-speed hit where the ball gets slammed between your car and another surface—like the ground, a wall, or even another car. Since the ball can’t actually compress, the force from both sides launches it off with insane speed. Players usually go for pinch shots to clear the ball across the field, and occasionally to score goals, though those are a bit harder to pull off.

How Does a Pinch Shot Work?

Timing is everything. To pull off a pinch, you need to hit the ball at the exact same moment it contacts another surface. That simultaneous impact is what creates all that extra power. There are a few different types of pinch shots you can try:

  • Wall Pinch: This is when you press the ball between your car and the wall. You don’t need to be airborne—just drive into the ball at the right angle and speed.
  • Ground Pinch: For this one, you’ll need to be in the air and slam the ball between your car and the floor. Players usually double-jump or flip down onto the ball to get the right angle and force.
  • Team Pinch: This involves two cars hitting the ball at the same time. It can happen anywhere on the field, but it requires solid communication and perfect timing between teammates to get the best result.

How to Pull Off a Pinch Shot

Before you go for a pinch, make sure you’ve saved your second jump—it’s often key to executing the move properly, especially with ground and wall pinches.

  • For a ground pinch, get airborne and aim to land your car on the ball just as it touches the ground. Use your second jump or a flip to time the impact for maximum power.
  • With a wall pinch, you don’t need to be off the ground. Just guide the ball toward the wall, then press into it with your car at the right moment and angle.
  • A team pinch is all about teamwork. If you and your teammate both boost into the ball at the same time from opposite sides, you can send it flying—assuming the angles line up. Communication is key here.

Mastering pinch shots takes practice, but once you get the hang of them, they can be game-changing. Whether you’re clearing the ball out of danger or launching a surprise rocket toward the goal, pinches are a flashy and effective tool to have in your skillset.
