Episode: What is an Episode in Valorant?
In Valorant, episodes serve as the primary competitive structure, each consisting of three distinct Acts. Each Act spans approximately two months, leading to a total episode duration of around six months. To date, there have been nine episodes, with the latest installment, entitled DEFIANCE, commencing on January 9, 2024.
Unlike Acts, which introduce new characters, maps, or game modes, the onset of a new episode triggers changes that impact all players’ rankings. At the beginning of each episode, players experience a mild rank reset, requiring them to participate in five placement matches to determine their new rank.
Additionally, as each episode launches, players are awarded a unique gun buddy that reflects their highest rank achieved during the previous Act of the last episode. Furthermore, each new episode brings with it a captivating cinematic video, enriching the game’s storyline with more lore.
