Buffing Your Interface in Season 2

Starting with fixing a bug that might be losing you games. For over 2 years, there has been an incredibly frustrating problem affecting anyone who is using focus or Arena 123 macros. If you’re trying to use one of these macros on a player who is out of range, the game will automatically cast the spell on your target.

That’s right. If you’ve ever wondered why sometimes your CCs or interrupts are randomly hitting the wrong player, this might be why. There are two ways to fix this, and both of them involve changing hidden console commands. If you aren’t using advanced interface options already, its built-in car browser makes things easy. Just search soft target and change these three values to zero.

Alternatively, you could do the exact same thing with a macro using these three slashrun commands. But then to fix this problem for good, you will need to change some of your macros, adding three new lines. One to clear your target, Another to target the right player, and then a final line to go back to your original target. Few.

Why? Because it’s like a cheat code for your awareness. It solves the clutter by including a setting to add lightweight pointer icons for your party and even a special icon for healers. This makes it super convenient as a DPS to know where your healer is standing, allowing you to stay in their line of sight during those high-pressure situations. And from the healer perspective, this feature is broken, too, since you’ll have no problem finding where your DPS are standing. They’re going to kite you around the map anyway, so you might as well keep track of them.

Now, you could choose the route of using class icons, which plenty of players do, but we like the clear distinction between healer and DPS. Also, Better Blizz Plates includes the option to hide annoying name plates from random pets and even a setting that displays totem icons. If you’ve ever wondered why W is so good at sniping down grounding totem, this is the reason.

Oh, and don’t you hate how even when you’re using Gladius or S Arena that Blizzard’s arena frames are still visible? But with better Blizz frames, you can simply check this box and they will be gone for good. And if you are a class with extra resources like combo points or holy power, be sure to check this box. This will make any of these resources appear instantly on the target frame instead of having the small animation delay that Blizzard has by default for some reason.

All right, now let’s fix another problem. Have you ever been in a lobby with a red paladin who doesn’t press sank? or maybe a mage who has no idea they can dispel hex. The very definition of utility includes being useful, which obviously doesn’t apply to anyone who never presses their buttons at the right moments.

Improving Weak Auras and PvP Performance

The problem is that the way Blizzard code spells can be a bit janky. For instance, the ability sticky tar bomb is an entirely different spell ID than its disarm effect, which you would only know by digging through Wowhead. But there’s an easier solution. It’s called ID tip, and it’s one of those add-ons you don’t think you need until you actually do. It’s simple. By highlighting over any spell, you get its exact spell ID, and you can even do the same with buffs and debuffs, so you’ll always know what to type in weak auras.

Okay, but what if you absolutely hate relying on add-ons for anything? With the recent news that Blizzard might be cracking down on weak auras, it might be time to think of other solutions to add-ons in PvP. Fortunately, there is a way to react up to 25% faster to information on your screen with zero extra clutter. Your ears. If you ever wondered why rank one Players are so fast, it’s because most of them are playing with game sounds. Turns out your ears pick up information about 25% faster than your eyeballs, which is something you can definitely benefit from in PvP. Now, there’s a really complicated way to adjust the volume of individual spells one by one, but that would take an entire guide. Instead, just make sure to adjust your individual volume settings with sound effects being the loudest channel. This will help you hear everything from kidney shot to Colossus Smash, allowing you to play WoW PvP like the Pioneers.

But if you’re the type of person who still likes add-ons but hates clutter, there are two other alternatives to Weak Auras in 2025. The first is Gladiator LOSA. Yes, the same add-on people were making fun of over 10 years ago. Players like W and Sidu are using this add-on Right now. We’re not joking. These are players who want every competitive edge, which means tapping into 25% latency bonus from sounds. There’s just one issue.

Right out of the box, Gladiator LOSA is a complete mess. It will spam you with every sound imaginable, and nobody wants that. To fix this, you’ll have to blacklist a bunch of spells one by one.

The Power of Details Add-On

Going back to the dev interview a few weeks ago, it was revealed that Details is the most popular add-on in the entire game. If we had to guess, most people watching this have it installed right now, but there are some settings you might consider changing. What many players don’t know is that Details has a built-in ability tracker called streamer mode, which basically works like Trophy GCD.

All it does is create a bar which shows your recent key presses, which we recommend placing somewhere in the corner of your screen. But why? Well, there’s a reason streamers use these add-ons, and it’s not just to help out their viewers. By tracking ability presses, it makes it much easier to VOD review. Instead of needing to check your action bars and guess what ability you pressed, streamer mode does it for you.

Another setting you might want to change is the death log events limit, which by default is set to 16. But if you set it to 45, you can get the maximum amount of information about any death in arena, which can help you avoid mistakes in the future. And don’t worry, this shouldn’t hurt performance.

Speaking of which, if you’re like me and you play WoW on an ancient relic of a laptop, you might want to change this setting in Details, adjusting the update interval to the maximum value. We’ve heard people gain 20 FPS by making this simple change. There’s a bunch of settings you might also consider changing, and there are plenty of guides explaining how to achieve maximum FPS in WoW. But there are two settings you might want to avoid changing.

The first is projected textures. This will allow you to clearly see ground animations for spells like Ring of Frost. So, be sure to keep this enabled. But now it’s time to talk about DRS. And no, we don’t mean the diminishing returns on crowd control. In case you didn’t know, there are diminishing returns on your secondary stats. That’s right. Haste, mastery, crit, and versatility will all diminish past a specific breakpoint. The worst part, there’s no way of telling when these stats actually DR.
