New Blueprints, Phases, and Rewards
The update introduces a series of new blueprints, from weapons to armor, along with phased rewards to keep players engaged. Each phase presents different challenges and objectives, with rewards that can make a significant impact on your survival journey. Be prepared to strategize and utilize these new blueprints effectively as you progress through each phase of the winter scenario.
Preparation for Returning Players
For returning players, there’s some valuable information to keep in mind. To avoid missing out on bonus rewards, you’ll want to log in before making the transfer to the new scenario. Start by checking your mailbox to claim any rewards available, as many of these items can be transferred to the new phase and provide you with a considerable advantage.
Essential Pre-Transfer Steps
Before transferring your main character to the new scenario, make sure you gather all rewards from your mailbox. These could include Starr rewards and other valuable consumables that you don’t want to miss. Additionally, pressing “Escape” will allow you to check rewards for the current phase you’re in, so be sure to claim every available item for a smooth start in the new winter environment.
Transferring to the New Scenario
I didn’t make much progression on this specific server, but if you claim every reward available, you’ll receive ten Mitsuko Marks and some Starcom. Once you’ve gathered these, it’s time to proceed with the transfer. To switch to the new Way of Winter scenario, press “Escape” and click on your current scenario, then go to “Season Info.” Here, you’ll find the Forced Script Exit option, which requires a token that can be purchased from the season shop.
Using the Scenario Exit Card
The Scenario Exit Card only costs one Mitsuko Mark and allows you to instantly leave the current server to explore a new one. This action can only be performed once, so it’s best to use it quickly or join a new server to enjoy all phases. Synchronizing with friends can enhance the experience, as you can aim to join the same server together for coordinated gameplay.
Choosing Your Starting Point
Now it’s time to select a starting zone. You have two options: the Vanauf and the Anx Tundra, each with three distinct drop zones. I personally recommend starting in Vanauf. Choosing this area provides several advantages, including convenient quick travel options that make early quest progression smoother, as you’ll need to visit Vanauf multiple times early on.
Advantages of Starting in Vanauf
Vanauf’s central location makes exploration and general travel far more convenient, especially without vehicles or teleportation towers unlocked initially. This area also has a pleasant climate, making it an ideal spot to establish a base in the new scenario.
Item Transfers for Returning Players
If you’re a returning player, consider transferring key items from your seasonal backpack to maximize efficiency in this new scenario. Bringing along a drill and chainsaw is highly recommended, as these tools will make resource gathering significantly easier, which is essential for establishing a strong foundation on the new server.
Recommended Resources and Tools for Transfer
It’s highly recommended to bring certain deviants with you for efficient resource gathering. Essentials like the Logging Beaver and Digby Boy can automate lumber and ore farming, while mushrooms are useful for farming within your base. Prioritize those with the highest activity and skill ratings, especially those rated at five or top-tier, as they will greatly benefit your base’s productivity.
Additional Items to Transfer
In addition to tools, make sure to bring precious shinies—though be cautious of transfer issues. It’s also a good idea to transfer 10 of each seed from your backpack, as these are lightweight and cost minimal transfer capacity. Focus on essentials like tools and a calibration blueprint, such as the Rapid Shot Style, which can enhance sniper builds significantly without taking much transfer accuracy. Weapons and armor, on the other hand, are much more costly to transfer.
Animal Resources and Weather Resistance
Hunting different animals in this new scenario yields various types of hides, including deer, cow, and reindeer hides, each offering unique bonuses to weather resistance (cold or heat). These materials are essential for surviving in this harsh environment. A thermometer in the top right of the screen provides a clear indication of current temperature conditions, allowing you to adjust gear accordingly.
Managing Temperature and Weather Effects
In this new environment, you can monitor your temperature status. Ideally, it should stay at “Cozy,” as extreme cold or heat can lead to weather-related sickness. Maintaining an optimal temperature is essential for avoiding these conditions, so make it a priority to keep your character comfortable in various weather situations.
Benefits of a Central Base Location
Setting up a base near the central quick travel point offers numerous advantages. This location allows quick access to many resources, including nearby cars that respawn with fuel periodically. Additionally, you’re close to a water source for easy pumping with your water systems, and various plants and trees in the area provide ample resources for crafting.
Access to Quick Travel and Resource Gathering
If you place your base in this central spot, you can access a teleportation tower for efficient travel across the map. This setup minimizes the need to use quick travel solely to return to your base. I also discovered a stationary “spooky bus” at coordinates -35760, a useful landmark near this location.
Advanced Tools and Survival Gear
With the choices made during the transfer, gathering resources like aluminum ore becomes feasible, which would be difficult with basic tools. One essential item to craft early on is a torch, which increases body temperature and helps significantly in colder regions, making survival much easier.
Crafting Gear and Enhancing Resistances
Now is a great time to start crafting gear using the hides collected earlier. Cowhide from buffalo provides increased maximum load, while reindeer hide can boost cold resistance. Additionally, some cowhide types offer heat resistance. You have a variety of options for different armor pieces: head armor for damage reduction, boots for improved roll and movement speed, and gloves for enhanced farming efficiency, yield, and gathering speed.
Temperature Control with Specialized Stones
For optimal temperature control, consider using Cradlemetics, which include new items like the Polar Expedition gear. This setup allows you to pack bags and prepare for snowy regions. Specialized stones—thermium, helium, and cium—can be crafted to improve resistances, similar to the mechanics in “Don’t Starve.” Start by crafting thermium stones, which can then be upgraded to items like heum, increasing cold and frost resistance by 10 for enhanced protection in harsh climates.
Preparing for Extreme Weather Conditions
To withstand the harsh climate, start by making ice cubes in the fridge and gathering Cold Crystal ores (details on these ores will be covered later). Using a heat stone is an effective way to boost resistances; it’s automatically stored in your backpack but expires after an hour, so always carry one to avoid falling victim to severe weather.
Crafting Temperature-Control Gear
You can also create a Chaosium Lantern, which further enhances resistances, and is available in the building tab. Unlock essential temperature control items like the campfire and vintage stove—both require fuel to operate but are crucial upgrades for survival. For optimal results, prioritize upgrades in the logistics tab, starting with basic stoves, dishes, air drying, and progressing to advanced dishes.
Survival Foods and Enhanced Resistance Meals
Certain foods can provide additional resistance boosts. The Ice Melon increases heat resistance by 10, while the Salty Roasted Spike M grants a similar cold resistance boost. For the ultimate protection, craft the All-Weather Stew, offering maximum resistance to both heat and cold. Once you have a stove, you can prepare these meals to keep your character well-protected from extreme temperatures.
Gathering Ice Melons and Essential Resources
To start, you’ll need to hunt for ice melons. One of these nodes can be found near the bear’s den, accessible around level 10. Molotovs are required to destroy these nodes. In this area, you’ll also encounter mint and ice melons, essential for crafting refreshing ice melon drinks, which are helpful in maintaining optimal temperature.
Completing Initial Commissions
After a few quests, you’ll unlock your first commissions. These tasks include feeding deviants, hunting animals, and gathering ores, all relatively simple at the beginning. Keeping your body temperature stable for over 10 minutes is also an easy task, especially with the earlier tips on temperature control. Additionally, you can complete sub-credits, such as taking five photographs, which are straightforward for early progress.
Maximizing Earnings from Early Resources
A quick way to earn credits early on is by selling canned lunch meat for 200 each instead of consuming it. While it won’t make you wealthy, it provides a steady income to reset commissions and tackle easy ones for more rewards. As a returning player, don’t forget to re-equip all your mods and weapon accessories—this gives you an immediate stat boost, making the start on the server much smoother.
Overcoming Higher-Level Enemies
Even at level four, it’s possible to handle enemies close to level 20 with the right strategy. Once you place a workbench, you’ll have instant access to all blueprints unlocked in previous seasons, including their upgraded levels. With these upgrades, the challenge becomes significantly easier, making it possible to take on tougher foes with confidence.
Improved Vehicle Selection System
A convenient addition in the new update is the ability to choose your vehicle directly when placing it, without the need to go back to your base to assign a different one. This simple yet impactful quality-of-life feature makes exploration and mobility much more streamlined, allowing you to focus on progression and resource gathering.
Exploring the Wish Machine and Blueprints
To access new blueprints, you’ll need some glass for the Wish Machine. Once activated, you can gamble for blueprints and their fragments in the familiar wish-making menu. The “Echoes of the Rift” option offers random rewards, though it’s best reserved for those with ample AIS Star Crumb. Later, you’ll unlock “Destructive Flames,” which includes the new Pyroclasm Starter Shotgun blueprint, enhancing your arsenal with fresh firepower options.
Recommended Blueprints for Flame and Frost Builds
For flame-focused builds, the Flaming Rune offers Flame Boots, an excellent addition to your gear. If you prefer frost-based setups, Tranquil Frost provides rewards such as the Silent Anabasis Assault Rifle with Frost Vortex bonuses and the Icy Rain SMG. Additionally, the Frost Domain option includes Snow Camo Gloves and blueprint fragments, which can be picked up from the blueprint shop.
Weapon Options and Blueprint Availability
In the blueprint shop, you’ll find the Pyroclasm Starter Shotgun for flame builds, along with the Silent Anabasis rifle and other new weapons. An additional rifle might be available in mystical crates, alongside a new LMG, Conflicting Memories. Though I’m not typically a fan of LMGs or specific SMG builds, I plan to try the Silent Anabasis for a versatile approach.
New Gear Sets and Special Status Blueprints
New status blueprints include the Fire Rune Boots and Snow Camo Gloves, ideal for enhancing specific elemental resistances. There’s also a fresh Blackstone set, which features various unlockable parts. With limited Starr available, prioritizing items like the Fire Rune Boots, Snow Camo Gloves, and essential weapons—especially the Silent Anabasis rifle—can give you a strong start.

Exploring the New Scenario Phases
This scenario consists of five phases, each lasting one week. I recently joined the server, so each week unlocks a new phase. During the first week, only standard events, crises, and normal-difficulty silos are available. After seven days, hard mode becomes accessible, along with Starr rewards as optional incentives. In the third week, pro-difficulty dungeons unlock, followed by additional challenges in the fourth week.
Collecting Phase Rewards
Don’t overlook the phase rewards, as they often include valuable items like the Mythic Cleanser, available at the beginning of each phase. These rewards are frequently missed, so make it a habit to collect them regularly. With each phase, new quests are introduced, adding variety and providing opportunities to earn Mitsuko Marks for progress.
