Hi, I’m Librarian Husky, These are the best position 5 support Heroes to play so far in patch 7.39B.

Best Position 5 Support Heroes in Patch 7.39B

Position 5 heroes continue to be about securing lanes, then securing the map as heroes like Lion, Shadow Shaman, and Nature’s Prophet outright set up kills for the safe lane carries while also going on ganks with midlaners like Storm Spirit, Queen of Pain, and Puck to control the map and secure uncontested farm for their carries. Let’s break it down.

So, in 7.38, Nature’s Prophet was one of the most fierce and annoying core heroes in the game. Didn’t matter if he was a mid laner or a carry, the hero absolutely solo carried games with his incredible map presence, unmatched farming speed, and comfort in pushing towers, even in the later parts of the match.

Now, in 7.39, they did away with its facets and brought up two new facets to make Nature’s Prophet one of the most annoying supports in the game instead. While most players think his new Nature’s Prophet asset looks fun and strong, it’s actually the new Soothing Saplings that is egregious.

Every time Nature’s Prophet uses Sprout, any tree within range heals for 50 health at max level per second. So, this facet not only has an AoE range more than, let’s say, Earthshaker’s Echo Slam, but it also heals for over 200% more than Enchantress with Nature’s Attendants at max level. What’s more is that any ally that uses a Tango on those trees also receives double the amount of healing.

So really, Nature’s Prophet has massive healing potential whether using Sprout on an ally or on enemies on top of his increased damage with his innate ability and good range to harass. This facet secures the laning stage for NP’s allies while still having one of the most annoying crowd control abilities in the game being his focal point of engagement and entrapment. Don’t forget that at level 15, NP gains a talent that bolsters his healing by another 30% when using Sprout. So the scalability is massive.

Now, because Nature’s Prophet isn’t really all that offensive anymore, he opts for more ganking items like Spirit Vessel, Ash Shard, Aghanim’s Scepter, and even Orchid. He is ultimately focused on setting up kills with his allies while maintaining that map pressure we talked about through his teleportation ability. So, while Nature’s Prophet starts to fall off in the later parts of the match, he’s still unmatched in the early game as a support.

Last time Disruptor was meta, they buffed his Thunder Strike ability to slow enemies for 0.4 seconds every time they took damage from Thunder Strike. Well, that’s exactly why Disruptor is back again. As in 7.39, the developers buffed the ability to 0.6 slow every time they took damage from Thunder Strike.

Thunder Strike increasing its slow duration again makes harassment much easier for the support, thus making the value point in that Thunder Strike ability all the more valuable during the laning stage. That means initiating with Thunder Strike as your first ability to catch enemies from afar is way more effective in its goals and more importantly helps you follow through easily in closing that gap to then use Glimpse when they start to run away.

Thunder Strike in the early game helps prevent enemies from closing in on you or from fleeing so you can get a few more harassing physical attacks in during that laning stage. Overall though, the hero hasn’t really changed except maybe you can max Thunder Strike second, then pick up a Glimmer Cape, Aghanim’s Scepter, always popular, or Blink Dagger, all depending on how you are approaching team fights. Don’t forget the level 10 talent as well to make the Thunder Strike even stronger during the juicy mid part of the match.

Obviously, the hero works really well against carries that don’t like to be kited when using Glimpse. Heroes like Ursa, Anti-Mage, Slark, Monkey King absolutely hate getting so easily trapped in your static storm and Kinetic Field after being glimpsed whenever they decide to commit to a jump and kill. So be mindful of when to use that combo for those specific types of targets.

Shadow Shaman: The Evergreen Pause Five Support

Shadow Shaman remains a formidable pick as a pause five support amidst the diverse array of new and traditional carries in the game. Heroes like Ursa, Juggernaut, Monkey King, Templar Assassin, and Terrorblade greatly benefit from his crowd control abilities, enabling them to unleash their damage without interruption. Shadow Shaman’s Hex and Shackles provide effective control from the laning phase to late-game, especially with the added utility of his Chicken Fingers facet, granting him a free Hex every 15 seconds.

This allows for devastating combos like consecutive Hexes and Shackles, creating havoc for opponents. Furthermore, his level 15 talent adds break to his Hex, making him a potent counter against fragile carries such as Slark and Phantom Assassin. In the mid game, Shadow Shaman excels as a ganker with an early Blink Dagger, synergizing well with heroes like Storm Spirit, Queen of Pain, and Puck. His ability to wait for opportune moments in team fights, especially against heroes with Black King Bar, showcases his strategic impact. Despite his familiarity as a support hero, the rise of beta carries underscores the significance of Shadow Shaman in stopping them, provided he has a team capable of capitalizing on his crowd control.

Ancient Apparition: The Cold Calculating Support

Even in a meta where strength Heroes are less prevalent, Ancient Apparition remains a viable pick due to his disruptive capabilities against heroes reliant on health sustain. Heroes like Slark, Dawnbreaker, Axe, and Wraith King find themselves significantly hindered by Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast and Bone Chill facet, which reduces opponents’ strength and health. The prevalence of Sanj and Yasha in core hero builds further enhances Ancient Apparition’s value as a counterpick, especially against sustain-oriented lineups. His global presence with Ice Blast benefits heroes like Lion, Legion Commander, Puck, and Queen of Pain, enabling them to secure kills across the map. With items like Rod of Atos and Ash Shard enhancing his lockdown potential, Ancient Apparition excels at controlling elusive foes like Tinker and Ember Spirit.

Overcoming his weaker laning phase, Ancient Apparition transforms into a proactive support that provides crucial map pressure and finishing power without exposing himself to danger. Another disruptive support, Silencer, retains his nuisance factor with the removal of Reverberating Silence but gains potency through his Suffer in Silence facet. This change amplifies Silencer’s impact beyond his ultimate ability, simplifying his gameplay and itemization with a focus on Last Word, Arcane Curse, and Glaze of Wisdom synergies, culminating in a streamlined build revolving around Eye of Skadi and Refresher Orb.

Optimizing Hero Performance

That’s pretty much it. You can get a Glimmer Cape or Force Staff if you’re having survivability issues, but otherwise just slap those two items, mash your keyboard so your abilities are applied, and enjoy your free win. Sounds popularity this patch comes from his ability to shut down a lot of meta heroes that have channeling abilities like Dawnbreaker obviously Witch Doctor, Shadow Shaman with Shackles, and core heroes that rely on their abilities to maneuver like Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit, Pangolier, Anti-Mage, Slark, and Ursa.

All right, so these are the heroes that are really popping off right now, but as you know things will change and I’ll try to get you an updated guide ASAP. A hero I didn’t get to mention that is also very universally beloved is Lion. Absolutely nothing wrong with him and he’s just like Shadow Shaman. Is great at initiating ganks with an early Blink Dagger. His Finger of Death obviously works well to burst down heroes to help finish them off for Legion Commander duels and Mana Drain is a fantastic way to make lanes relatively comfortable for laning all like carries along with an early Hex and Earth Spike to set up kills too like with heroes such as Ursa.
