This is not a DOTA 2 versus League of Legends guide; I’m not here to tell you which game is better because they are two completely different games. DOTA 2 is an explosive 5v5 mobile game. You are going in playing as a character with four other teammates aiming to battle and take down your opponents’ Throne. Unlike League of Legends, where the game revolves around hitting skill shots, DOTA offers overpowered characters with insane abilities. This guy can stop time, this guy can create cataclysm, this guy can bomb your entire screen, this guy can create a thunderstorm globally around the map, and this guy can AFK in your base and kill Everyone. When everyone is overpowered, no one really is, and this is DOTA 2.

Also, if you’re wondering, There is no standard surrender feature in DOTA 2. The comeback mechanic is pretty decent, so no matter how far behind you are, there is always a way back. The games in DOTA will tend to be a little bit longer than League, but I will say quality over quantity. And if I mention something you don’t care about in this article, it means that you’ll probably learn it along the way, and you shouldn’t stress too much about it at the start of the game.

Okay, when you have downloaded and logged into the game, you will be introduced to a short tutorial, which I recommend you complete. This is for you to get used to clicking things. Once you have done that, or even if you don’t want to do it, it’s fine. Go to the top of your screen and click Heroes. These are all the characters, or we call them Heroes, available in the game. Every hero can be countered by another hero. Every hero is free to play; there are no pay-to-win mechanics in DOTA 2, and this is 100% a game of skills. The only time you’ll be spending money is when you’re buying cosmetics for your characters, and I can tell you that it’s very tempting to get these cosmetics sometimes, so just beware. As far as I know, the more complex heroes will be locked until you play a certain amount of games. You can click on any hero and press “Demo Hero” to try out their abilities.

Okay, time to play. To find a game, press “Play DOTA” under “Unranked,” select or pick, and queue for a game. To play ranked, you will need to unlock it by playing for 100 hours. Game Setup and Initial Objectives

Bounty Runes will spawn on four different positions, and your job is to collect as many Bounty Runes as possible. At minute zero, starting from minute zero, the Bounty Runes will spawn once every 4 minutes.

Then you’re going to go back into your lanes. There are three lanes in DOTA 2, the Top Lane, the Middle Lane, and the Bottom Lane. Every character in DOTA has different roles, and depending on the role, there is a farm priority. But you don’t care, just go to any lane you want. Usually, the mid lane is a 1v1, the top lane is a 2v2, and the bottom lane is also a 2v2. So you just go wherever you want to go and just fill up any lanes that are empty.

Don’t overthink about roles and lanes and whatever, just play the game. It doesn’t matter; it’s fun. In these lanes, there will be creeps. By killing the creeps, you will gain gold and Experience. Experience helps you level up and get more skills. Gold will help you buy items and become stronger. In DOTA, everyone will be given a courier, and you’re going to use this courier to deliver the items that you have purchased in base. Your courier will be walking to you until you hit level four, and it will start flying. That’s kind of cute, right? I mean, you are allowed to hold six items at a time. You have six item slots, three backpack slots, one neutral item slot, and one TP scroll slot.

The six item slots in DOTA are crucial for your gameplay as they determine the items you are actively using. However, these slots may feel limited as you accumulate numerous items during a match. In such cases, you can store additional items in your backpack slot until needed. It’s a one-time use item, requiring you to purchase another after deployment. Moreover, receiving a free TP scroll upon being killed by an enemy is a common occurrence. Keep an eye on your teammates; excessive TP scrolls may indicate a feeding strategy.

Navigating through damage types in DOTA can be intricate. Physical damage occurs when attacking, while spell damage is inflicted through abilities. You just need to know that Water Rune gives you HP and Mana. It spawns at 2 minutes and 4 minutes, except on the top or bottom lane where it appears at 3 minutes. At 3 minutes, the Lotus Pool spawns Lotuses at 3-minute intervals. To collect a Lotus, stand in the pool briefly. If contested, a battle decides the winner. Embrace the fight rather than flee.

At 5 minutes, day transitions to night, leading to skirmishes for poor visibility. Ignore the night cycle’s complexity and focus on the 5-minute day, 5-minute night pattern. At 6 minutes, Power Runes replace Water Runes on the river, spawning every 2 minutes. Power Runes like Amplify Damage, Arcane Rune, and others provide significant advantages and are worth contesting.

Game-Changing Elements in the Mid-Game

Wisdom at 7 minutes grants valuable experience, aiding quick leveling and ultimate ability access. Similar to the Lotus Pool, Wisdom spawns every 7 minutes, requiring a team member to stand in the pool uncontested. Another struggle ensues if both teams vie for wisdom. At 15 minutes, Tormenta appears, offering a spell-enhancing item to the team’s least wealthy player upon defeat. Exercise caution when deciding to engage with Tormenta.
