Welcome, fellow adventurers! Librarian Husky here, ready to guide you through the ins and outs of Season Five in Diablo 4. This season brings exciting changes, especially with the introduction of Mythic Uniques. Whether you’re looking to maximize your build or just get stronger, this guide has everything you need to conquer the challenges ahead. Let’s dive in and make sure you’re fully prepared to harness the power of these incredible items!
The Challenge of Acquiring Mythic Uniques
Until Season Four, obtaining a specific Mythic Unique was quite a tough task, not only because of the difficulty in getting a Mythic Unique drop but also in finding one that fits within your setup. Season Four made this easier by adding a bunch of guaranteed Resplendent Spark drops, which are the crafting materials that you can use to make a Mythic Unique of your choice at The Alchemist. It became common for every player to have at least one Mythic Unique that fit their chosen build, at least by the halfway point of the season.
Season Five: A New Approach to Mythic Uniques
But that was about the limit for most people, unless you were properly devoted to farming these items. This season, however, things have changed. As of recording this, it is about three days into the season, and with only about four hours of farming total, probably…
Mythic Uniques and Their Drop Rates
I have gotten every Mythic unique that Rogue can get; one of them was through transmuting with Sparks, even mind you, but everyone has been in my inventory at one point or another. In total, I have had eight Mythic Uniques drop so far. That said, let’s talk about why that is happening and how you can do the same thing.
Understanding the Changes
In case you aren’t up to date on the changes made to this grind, we’ll talk about how to get your first ones a little bit easier with the guaranteed Resplendent Sparks that you can get in the game. Then we’ll talk about the fastest ways currently to get more Resplendent Sparks past that or just more Mythic Uniques in general.
Potential Unconfirmed Boss Drop Rates
There is something that is definitely unconfirmed but a bit funky going on with one of the bosses that may be increasing their specific drop rate, so it’s important to think about. First up, let’s talk about why this is happening to begin with. The big main difference from last season is that now every torment version of a boss—meaning the ones that are summoned with Stygian Stones—has an equal 7 and 1/12% chance per kill to drop a Mythic unique, specifically each of the five unique drops that happens.
Torment Boss Drop Rates and Mythic Uniques
When you kill one of these Torment bosses, there is a 1.5% chance of it dropping a Mythic unique. This means, on average, one in every 13 to 14 Torment boss kills should result in a Mythic unique dropping. The moment you are strong enough to kill Torment bosses, your chances of obtaining these items increase significantly.
Changes from Last Season
This is notably different from last season, where Duriel and Andariel specifically had a much higher drop rate of Mythic Uniques than any other boss, which limited the types of materials you could use for this.
Equalized Drop Rates and Boss Material Requirements
Now that all of these bosses on Torment have an equal rate of these drops, as long as you have Scion Stones, you can make any of the bosses drop Mythics equally. The significant benefit of this change is that it allows you to spread out the boss material requirements because not many people will have a lot of purely Duriel mats.

General Boss Materials and Torment Boss Drops
You’ll have a lot of general Boss materials, allowing you to do various bosses. As long as you have the stones to make them Torment, all of them will give you Mythic Uniques. That said, the next barrier comes with Stygian Stones.
Stygian Stones: Changes from Last Season
Last season, Stygian Stones only dropped from high-tier pit runs, and even then, their actual drop rate was problematically low. This resulted in a relatively low amount of these materials floating around, making it very hard for most people to properly farm Torment bosses.
Improved Stygian Stone Drop Rates
This season, Stygian Stones drop fairly consistently from the material chest in Tier 7 Infernal Hordes and above. You can get a ton even earlier than that from the reputation track and the last couple of chapters of the Season Journey. Past that, farming Tier 7 Infernal Hordes and spam opening the materials chest gives you a decent drop rate of Stygian Stones—usually one stone for every 80 or so Aether you spend on the chest, which is a pretty good return rate.
Eliminating the Dungeon Reset Requirement
An important note is that the boss fights no longer require you to reset the dungeon and start from the beginning again between kills. This change significantly reduces the time required to kill bosses, making farming much more efficient.
Improved Boss Farming Efficiency
If you had a good flow of materials and were good at the actual killing part, you’d benefit from these changes. Now, because the room resets itself immediately when the boss dies, you can summon them pretty much back-to-back if you want to.
Reduced Downtime Between Kills
Most people will still dip quickly to salvage or stash stuff between kills, but this change still shaves off a good minute of the faffing around time in between kills from the normal loop of these bosses. When the kills start to get quick enough, this time difference adds up significantly over, let’s say, an hour of boss runs.
Farming Mythic Uniques Made Easier
You can now farm any Torment boss for Mythic Uniques, even the ones that are easier to kill if you aren’t yet strong enough for Torment Duriel or Andariel. This opens up a lot of Boss materials that previously couldn’t be used for Mythic farming, making the process easier.
Stygian Stones and Resummoning Efficiency
Stygian Stones for farming Torment bosses are also more plentiful, and you can resummon the bosses faster, making these repeat kills significantly more efficient than they used to be. Moving forward, let’s talk about the guaranteed Resplendent Sparks quickly as a reminder. This is quite similar to last season: you get one guaranteed spark from the final box of the reputation track as part of the seasonal quest line.
Obtaining Guaranteed Resplendent Sparks
When you kill any of the Torment ladder bosses, you get a guaranteed Resplendent Spark. The final guaranteed Spark comes from your first time killing Uber Lilith this season. It takes four of these Sparks to make a Mythic unique, so that’s three out of four guaranteed simple drops.
Farming Additional Resplendent Sparks
If you want more Sparks, you can level an alt and farm reputation simultaneously, as the end-of-reputation box will always contain one Spark for every character you create. Alternatively, you can salvage a Mythic unique this season. They drop quicker than in any previous season, so it doesn’t feel odd to recommend salvaging ones you don’t care about to make ones you actually want.
Maximizing Your Mythic Unique Collection
Especially consider salvaging the first Mythic unique you don’t want, as you will already have three Sparks from the guaranteed activities. This strategy allows you to use them to create items you truly desire, making the most of the drops and guaranteed rewards available this season.
The Mysterious Nature of the Beast in Ice
I have no way of actively proving this—there hasn’t been any data mining to show it—but the Beast in Ice is strange on Torment difficulty. His damage is insane; he will one-shot people who have zero of the actual debuff stacks that increase the damage you take. These are people who otherwise would never be one-shot by even Torment Duriel or Andariel unless they had four or more stacks.
Health and Damage Discrepancies
His health is comparatively, and weirdly, much lower than every other Torment boss. So, he is the highest-damaging and lowest-health pool combined of all Torment bosses. My theory is that this might be tied to him now being properly level 200, as last season, even on Torment, he was listed as level 150.
Farming Efficiency and Mythic Drops
Knowing this, once we were strong enough to one-shot him before he could perform any dangerous moves, the Beast in Ice became the best farm. The lowest health pool means the fastest kill, and if you can rush him down, the one-shots weren’t a threat, making it a consistent farm.
Unusual Drop Rates
What I found very quickly, along with my entire group, was that we were getting more Mythic Uniques dropping from Torment Beast in Ice than any other Torment boss, despite them supposedly having equal Drop rates. Of my Mythic farming time, about 40% has been on Torment Duriel, 30% on Torment Beast in Ice, 10% on Torment Gregar, 10% on Torment Zer, with the last percentage split between the others.

Mythic Unique Drops and the Beast in Ice
Of the Mythic Uniques that have dropped so far, the first one was from a Torment Zir, one from Torment Andariel, and the other six—all of them—from Torment Beast in Ice. This could be entirely conjecture, superstition, or confirmation bias—whatever words you want to use to describe it. It’s possible this is just in my head.
Possible Bug and Level Influence
However, when a boss is bugged to have messed-up damage and health stats, and when that change may be tied to its level being different than it used to be, it’s also possible that this is related to the level raising itself. I could see Drop rates being tied to the technical monster level of the ladder bosses, and a mistake could have been made in that regard.
Testing the Theory
Maybe it’s not real; maybe it is. But if I’m wrong, you lose nothing because, in theory, every Torment boss should have equal drop chances. So, if I’m right and one of them doesn’t, you lose nothing by trying that one. You might as well give it a go and see for yourself.
Final Thoughts on Mythic Uniques
That just about does it for today. I’ve provided a full rundown of what is going on with Mythic Uniques right now, why they are so easy to get compared to all prior seasons, how to take advantage of that yourself, and my possibly crazy theory backed by an unusual amount of personal sample size at this point.
