Best Specs for Climbing in Season 2

For a spec to make it on this list, it must be a tier or better with a low barrier to entry and of course good at pumping the meters. That’s right. Did you know that the highest rated players are doing almost 25% more damage than the average PvPer? That’s like getting a Berserker buff in Warsong Gulch. What’s even crazier is that increasing your DPS by at least 10% means you can gain 400 rating on average.

As much as these streamers like to brag about crazy mechanics, the fundamentals are what actually matter. For over 10 years, we’ve helped over half a million players turn frustrating losing streaks into consistent wins. Our damage guides are the standard for mastering the perfect rotation on any spec, which is the number one way to start winning more games by teaching WoW the right way from your perspective.

Warrior – The Top Pick

So, which melee do we think give you the easiest climbing experience in season 2? The first pick should be pretty obvious. It’s Warrior, which we think is arguably the best class for climbing in every bracket. We’re going to be focusing on Arms because it’s the quote unquote meta spec right now, but Fury is still really good and shares a lot of the same qualities. Arms has the best of both worlds, putting out big numbers with a fairly simple rotation.

In fact, ARMS got a few quality of life changes this expansion, including sharpened blade, which is now just passively baked into Colossus Smash, which means being able to put out big damage with less button bloat. And speaking of which, even though arms warrior lost some utility with the removal of war banner, you now have one of the most useful counters against AoE fears with Berserker shout, which is basically just a tremor totem that is harder to counter.

Finally, we want to talk about something a bit controversial, mobility. Even though warriors aren’t as mobile as mages or feral druids, they have more tools than ever to stick on target. The slayer hero spec has some built-in cooldown reduction to charge and heroic leap, which of course doesn’t solve all mobility problems, but definitely helps with uptime. Anyway, you probably saw this coming, but Warrior is definitely made for an easy climb.

Retribution Paladin – The Caster in Disguise

Coming in as our second melee is Rhett Paladin. The fact that many Paladin sets are basically dresses with plate armor should give you a hint that Rhett is just a caster in disguise. The biggest advantage Rhett has over other melee is that most of its attacks can be done from a ridiculous range, which of course makes mobility less of an issue. Not to mention, their rotation is a pretty standard priority system.

Choosing the Right Melee Class for PvP

You’re not going to suffer the same carpal tunnel as a fury warrior, but instead cycle through your builders and spenders as they light up. And these days, rats are actually doing a lot of damage. Sure, they might not have the ultra high impact burst like the past, but their sustained damage is going to be really good, especially into other melee. And as always, what carries the most is their defensive kit, which has arguably reached its peak. One thing that definitely helps when learning a new spec is not dying, of course. And with plenty of tools to stay alive, rats are incredibly self-sustainable.

The main learning curve when picking up this spec will be utility. More often than not, the biggest difference between the 1,800 RET and the 2400 R boils down to how often they use Blessing of Sanctuary. If you can get good at monitoring party frames and reacting to when your partners are in trouble or stuck in CC, you will absolutely be able to carry. Choosing our final melee for this list was honestly a bit tricky. One of the classes we considered was Demon Hunter. Without a doubt, it’s one of the strongest melee in the game, and obviously it avoids a lot of the classic uptime problems thanks to its built-in jetack.

But what makes Demon Hunter work is all of its multitasking. Even though it might technically be one of the brawler melee, the DH toolkit is sort of split evenly in every direction. At its core, you do have great sustained damage, but to be a good demon hunter, you need to really balance it with well-timed control and utility. It’s kind of like being a jack of all trades, but master of none. This is why we went with Windwalker Monk for our final pick.

These days, Windwalker Monks are basically just fury warriors in leather transmog. Monks perfectly fit the brawler archetype. They’re just designed to press W and do insane damage, which seems to never end. And just to address the elephant in the room, of course, Windwalker monks have their mobility issues, specifically against mages. And doing damage can also be a bit trickier on Windwalker and Demon Hunter compared to the other melee on this list, which is why it was a bit of a tossup for our third pick.

The reason we wound up going with Windwalker is because it has a better defensive kit. We cannot stress enough that being tanky is a really big deal for wanting an easy climb. And monks just have some of the most efficient defensive cooldowns in the game and are rarely a kill target. Right now, the gap between warriors, rs, and other melee is quite large on the accessibility scale, but we think windwalker is a good third pick.

Now though, let’s find out which range DPS are the best for an easy climb in season 2. Of course, the challenge with being a caster these days is needing to cast. The solution? Just don’t do it.

Best Ranged DPS Classes in Season 2

We don’t want to waste your time by explaining the obvious, but BM Hunter continues to be one of the easiest and best range DPS in the game and is even easier this season thanks to its two-step bonus, which automatically fires off a barbed shot, simplifying their rotation significantly. In any case, being able to do your entire rotation while on the move is a huge luxury as a caster these days since melee will stick on you like glue. The BM win condition is also super straightforward still. You don’t have to worry about syncing up cooldowns and instead you pretty much send everything on CD while landing traps whenever convenient. We’ve even seen hunters at elite rating and above who don’t land a single trap all game. We don’t recommend this obviously, but it can work.

So, while it was probably obvious, BM is our first pick. Sticking on theme for not needing to cast as much is Elemental Shaman, who is our second pick for an easy climb in season 2. The Ellie rotation is pretty straightforward, and with Liquid Magma Totem, there has never been an easier time keeping Flame Shock up on a bunch of targets at once.

With that said, there’s a bit more downtime with their rotation these days since you don’t get nearly as many Lava Burst procs compared to the past. But not to worry since one of the key advantages of playing Ellie is the ability to easily cycle through spell schools. If you’re kicked on Lava Burst, you still have about 30 other spells you can press. This is a massive convenience factor as a wizard. Just ask any affliction warlock how they’re feeling this season.

Also, it helps that Ellie is actually pretty tanky these days. If you’re in a lobby with another wizard, it’s going to be super rare that you are the kill target, allowing you to easily focus on damage and utility. And just like BM, Ellie doesn’t have to overthink its win condition. Every 30 seconds, just line up ancestral swiftness and primordial wave, and that’s pretty much it. But just like Red Paladin, the main learning curve of any hybrid DPS is being able to juggle your damage with utility.

If you really want to excel at this spec, you need to put yourself in the shoes of a goalie, being ready to stop cast with grounding totem or tremor your healer out of a fear which might seem daunting at first but becomes much easier once you master your rotation.

Now before we reveal our final range spec, we have an honorable mention. While marks hunters definitely have some of the craziest burst damage in the game, they can be a bit more annoying to play compared to BM. Even though you don’t have to deal with normal interrupts, there’s a high chance you’re going to get shut down by melee just like a normal caster. Playing under pressure is never fun and marked usually finds itself in these situations where you can’t get away from melee no matter what you do. That’s why we went with devastation evoker for our final spec. Dev can be an absolute menace for some of the popular melee.

Being able to hover around and cast while moving means you can be a nightmare for warriors. All this mobility means that many melee will simply ignore you if there’s another caster in the lobby. And even though evokers used to be squishy back in the day, they’re definitely super tanky these days, having two charges of their shield wall, which conveniently provides aura mastery, too.

Best Healers for Season X – Holy Priest and Holy Paladin

Throw a nullifying shroud on top of this, and your damage is unstoppable in the moments you need it the most. Dev is also one of those casters who greatly benefits from its different spell schools. Your damage is on a completely different school from your spammable CC, which makes getting kicked way less punishing. Their interrupt is also really unique since it’s physical, which again makes lockouts much easier to manage. Not many people know this, but evokers technically have five unique spell schools, which is pretty crazy to think about. So, if you’re wanting a lower effort climb on a DPS this season, look no further than these six picks.

Now, if you’re up for a real challenge, that means healing, right? Here’s the thing. In a lot of cases, the easiest healer is simply the best healer, which always makes these rankings seem a bit strange. If we lived in an alternate reality where resto shamans were overpowered, they’d easily make this list since their healing rotation is pretty straightforward. But right now, their instant healing is so weak that shamans need to spend half of the game hard casting healing surges, which makes life a bit rough when you want to squeeze in all that utility.

So, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that Holy Priest will be the first healer to make it on our list. After their massive buffs a few months ago, the spec skyrocketed in popularity, thanks in part to its accessibility. The main advantage of playing Holy Priest is how much instant healing you can put out. Of course, most people would point to prayer of mending and serenity, but the new tech this season is empowered Renew, which was massively buffed to increase Renew’s healing by 120% while adding a 12-second cool down.

Right now, one of the biggest pain points for any healer is CC, which is why specs like Preservation of Ochre and Mistw Weaver Monk won’t be making this list. Holy Priest solves this issue with Angel Form, which is the perfect tool for surviving the early game in solo shuffle. Being able to be completely immune to CC and interrupts while pumping heals is an absolute luxury in this day and age. With tons of instant heals and ways to avoid CC, Holy Priest takes our first spot.

Our second healer might come as a surprise to some people, but it has to be Holy Paladin, which is arguably an S tier healer this season. If you’ve been watching this channel for a while, you already know that we routinely rank Holy Paladin in the easy category. And this is because just like Rhett, the spec is based around a pretty straightforward builder spender system. So, in terms of healing, your buttons kind of press themselves. And just like Holy Priest, the majority of your healing is going to come from instant casts, which is a massive convenience factor in the era of micro CC.

Of course, the biggest learning curve for playing this spec is knowing how to juggle all of your defensive cooldowns. At first, it might seem overwhelming having mastery, sack, bop, lay on hands, and bubble. But after enough games, it should become more clear how to rotate through these one by one. And like other healers, you’ll need to learn how to balance your heals with offensive play. With the ability to spam repentance, paladins actually have a fair amount of control over their games. It’s just a matter of figuring out when your CC is needed and how to safely cross the map.

Final Healer Revealed

And before we reveal our final healer, we’d like to give a nod to Disc Priest. Even though Holy Priest has taken the spotlight, Disc is still really good. After their rework earlier this expansion, Disc picked up a ton of extra healing baked into its core healing spells with less focus on atonement. Combine this with a bunch of CDs, and the spec feels super well-rounded.

As for our last healer, we decided to go with Resto Druid. Even though players have historically struggled with this spec, there’s no denying its strength in season 2. With some of the best single target healing and crowd control in the game, druids have a lot to offer in every arena bracket.

In the past, hot maintenance was the biggest learning curve for the spec. But this season’s tier set has made it an absolute breeze, causing missing hots to automatically be applied. Overall, this makes any mistakes far less punishing. Besides mastering crowd control, the biggest learning curve for Resto Druid is defensive play. It’s still one of the squishiest healers in the game and can easily get torn apart by sub rogues or trained down by some of the brawler melee. But if you can learn to sense when danger is coming and cycle through your defensive options, you will find resto more comfortable.

This is a class based on balance, no pun intended. So if you want to avoid headaches in season 2, these are some of the best and easiest specs for climbing fast.
