Greetings, fellow adventurers! Iโ€™m Librarian Husky, and today Iโ€™m here to share some helpful tips for 2v2 PvP. Whether youโ€™re new to the arena or a seasoned player, donโ€™t let the current meta discourage you. Success in 2v2 isnโ€™t just about picking the top-tier classes; itโ€™s about how well you adapt, deal damage, and work with your partner. Ready to claim victory? Letโ€™s dive into what it takes to succeed!

The Impact of Healers in 2v2

In today’s meta, almost every successful composition will include a healer. But donโ€™t feel disheartened, 2v2 players, because your success in the bracket isnโ€™t solely dependent on a tier list. The truth is that anyone can find success in 2v2.

The Key to Success in 2v2

To reach your goals in 2v2, there’s one thing you need: huge damage. Damage is crucial in PvP. Data shows that dealing more damage is directly tied to rating gains.

Feral Druid: The King of 2v2

Feral Druid is undoubtedly the king of the jungle in the 2v2 bracket. With the perfect combination of damage, control, and defense, they dominate. The best comp for Feral is with a Discipline Priest, as they share incredible synergy. This duo is iconic in PvP history.

Feral Druid’s Playstyle

Feral Druids play like Rogues in disguise, pinning down multiple targets and enabling their partner to free-cast damage. This is exactly what Disc Priests thrive on, making them a powerful pair.

Moving to A-Tier DPS

Our first A-tier DPS is the Survival Hunter. A quick disclaimer: this spec might not shine at lower ratings. Bigmechs can make it work every season, but he plays thousands of games, one-tricking this spec in a challenging bracket. Despite the difficulty, Survival is effective when paired with a meta healer.

Synergy and Consistent Damage

Pairing Survival Hunter with a Resto Druid, Discipline Priest, or Preservation Evoker will offer great CC synergy, using abilities like Fear, Sleepwalk, or Cyclone to follow up on Freezing Traps. Survival excels at consistent damage and thrives by carrying momentum through well-timed swaps between the enemy DPS and healer.

The Importance of Offensive Support

Having offensive support really helps in 2v2. After some recent damage nerfs, Unholy Death Knights have slightly fallen in our rankings, but they remain highly competitive. Historically, Unholy DKs struggle to finish games, but with the rise of viable offensive healers, things have changed. Now, DKs can set up powerful plays with their 45-second cooldowns, cleaving targets effectively.

Combining DKs with Healers

Throw a Discipline Priest, Preservation Evoker, or Resto Shaman into the mix, and you get a deadly combination of damage and support. This synergy allows DKs to capitalize on their burst setups, making them more formidable in the bracket.

Warrior Specs in 2v2

Both Warrior specs are next in the A-tier, with Arms Warriors potentially making a comeback, especially after Fury suffered multiple nerfs in recent weeks. Warriors have been a staple in the 2v2 bracket for a long time, and they remain solid for most players, despite some challenges.

Warrior Weaknesses

Warriors can struggle against some S-tier specs, particularly Devastation Evokers. Interestingly, Warriors donโ€™t synergize well with Discipline Priests. For most players, Preservation Evokers, Resto Shamans, or even Resto Druids might feel like better healer partners.

Subtlety Rogue: Near S-Tier

Subtlety Rogues are another powerful A-tier DPS. We almost placed them in the S-tier but decided to hold back for now. Their control and burst potential make them a solid pick, but certain matchups may challenge their ranking.

Subtlety Rogue: Control and Setups

Subtlety Rogue is another spec that tends to fall off at lower ratings, but like Feral Druid, it thrives on its control. The Rogue’s strategy revolves around consistent 3-2-1 setups, gradually forcing enemy cooldowns one by one until the perfect kill window appears.

Ideal Healer Pairings

Discipline Priest or Preservation Evoker is the ideal partner for Subtlety Rogue. These healers provide massive burst damage during stuns, helping to secure kills. They also offer valuable crowd control tools like Psychic Scream or Sleepwalk, allowing the Rogue to chain CC with stuns, gouges, or even saps.

Subtlety Rogue’s Consistent Damage

Interestingly, Subtlety Rogues now deal consistent damage through abilities like Rupture. This consistency helps them keep pace with other high-tier melee classes on the damage scoreboard, making them a reliable pick in PvP.

Assassination Rogue: A More Player-Friendly Option

Assassination Rogue is another high-tier threat that is generally easier for most players to pick up compared to Subtlety. Assassination is an attrition-based spec, focusing on maximizing overall DPS throughout a longer game. Its strength comes from spreading AoE dots and stacking damage multipliers like Scent of Blood.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Assassination

This makes Assassination particularly strong against specs like Unholy Death Knights and Beast Mastery Hunters. Ideally, you’ll want to pair with a healer who can help add to your sustained damage, as many wins will come deep into dampening. However, the prevalence of Evokers, who can easily deny kills, remains a major challenge for Assassination Rogues.

The Impact of Survival Hunterโ€™s Abilities

Survival Hunters can be frustrating to face due to abilities like Mending Bandage. Having your two-minute cooldown shut down by a more efficient ability like Cauterizing Flame is never a good feeling. This makes Survival Hunters a bit annoying in 2v2 matchups.

Devastation Evoker: A Rising Force in 2v2

Devastation Evokers have quickly risen to prominence in 2v2, becoming a nightmare for melee players. With Hover acting as a freedom effect, two charges, and resets with Deep Breath, Evokers can play like Mages in heavy armor. Their damage is also significant, especially when paired with healers who can help secure kills during Deep Breath setups.

Windwalker Monks: Consistent but Lacking Finishing Power

Windwalker Monks are still a great pick in 2v2. Over the years, theyโ€™ve transformed from tactical fighters into more of a brawler type, like a Fury Warrior in leather armor. They deal consistent damage but may lack the finishing power they once had. Big damage setups with Leg Sweep remain critical, especially when paired with high-damage healers.

Beast Mastery Hunter: A Consistent Staple

Beast Mastery Hunters continue to be a staple in 2v2. They share some of the best compositions with other Hunter specs and offer solid performance. Their consistent pressure and ability to keep dealing damage without much downtime make them a reliable choice in the bracket.

The Brutality of Deep Dampening

Dealing with deep dampening is absolutely brutal, especially for Discipline Priests, who will tell you about the fear of being hunted down by Beast Mastery Hunters once dampening reaches 40%. Marksman Hunters, while dominant in solo Shuffle, struggle in 2v2, particularly without a reliable lockdown effect for DPS.

Marksman Hunters in 2v2

In 2v2, Marksman Hunters can be bullied by high-tier melee classes, especially those with disarms ready for every True Shot. Without consistent lockdowns, they are more vulnerable compared to other high-tier specs, and their performance suffers in this bracket.

Outlaw Rogue: High Potential but High Complexity

Outlaw Rogue could be a tier higher, but its complexity makes it less appealing. Itโ€™s the least beginner-friendly Rogue spec and requires significant skill and awareness to play effectively. Players will want to pair with a meta healer or aim to win through dampening strategies.

Demon Hunter: Consistent but Falling Behind

Demon Hunters have historically performed well in 2v2 due to their high, consistent damage. Despite some recent buffs, they are currently falling behind higher-tier specs, mainly due to the nerfs to their previous synergies that boosted teammates’ magic damage. They rely heavily on offensive healers, and while they might rise after future buffs, for now, they remain in the B tier.

Frost Mage in 2v2: A Surprising Pick

Frost Mage might seem like an odd choice for 2v2, considering that double DPS is generally ineffective, and Mages tend to pair well with Rogues. However, right now, Frost Mage is quite strong when paired with a Discipline Priest. The main challenge for any caster in 2v2 is being shut down by high-tier melee with high mobility, such as Feral Druids or Subtlety Rogues.

Optimal Frost Mage Strategy

To succeed as a Frost Mage in 2v2, youโ€™ll want to use the Snow Drift PvP talent. This gives you brief windows to deal significant damage alongside your Discipline Priest partner. Afterward, youโ€™ll need to return to kiting and avoiding damage until youโ€™re ready for another offensive burst.

Shadow Priest: A High-Skill B Tier Pick

Shadow Priest has made its way into the B tier, but itโ€™s a spec that requires a lot of finesse. One issue with Shadow Priest in 2v2 is that itโ€™s awkward to play with one of the best healers in the bracket. Shadow Priests deal excellent damage when they can cast, but they need help with lockdown and kiting.

Shadow Priest and Healer Pairings

Resto Druids pair well with Shadow Priests, acting like mini Sub Rogues, helping to control one target while the Shadow Priest unleashes a stun and silence combo. Evokers, Resto Shamans, or even Holy Paladins can also work well. It takes skill to pull off, but playing a Shadow Priest in 2v2 can be highly rewarding.

Warlocks in 2v2: Reliable Mid-Tier Wizards

The only other caster specs in the mid-tier are Warlocks. After recent armor buffs, Demonology Warlocks might have the edge, as they are the only caster with a strong and reliable Mortal Strike effect. Your win condition as a Warlock wonโ€™t rely on setups but on draining the enemy healerโ€™s mana as dampening increases.

Mid-Tier Healer Recommendations

We recommend pairing with a Preservation Evoker or Resto Shaman to help with offensive pressure, or even a Resto Druid if you’re feeling adventurous. These healers provide the necessary support to boost your kill potential in 2v2 matches.

Retribution Paladin: Big Numbers but Lacking Kill Power

Retribution Paladins can put up impressive numbers on the scoreboard, but they often lack just a bit of kill power. Much of their damage is tied into their new talents, which makes securing kills more challenging. However, playing with a Discipline Priest or Preservation Evoker can help cover this weakness by providing the necessary damage assistance.

Frost Death Knight: Linear Win Conditions

Frost Death Knights have one of the most linear win conditions in the gameโ€”bursting with big AoE damage and then waiting for cooldowns. While 2v2 offers more flexibility in setting up these bursts, you can still be outpaced between cooldowns. To make your setups more deadly, pairing with a Preservation Evoker for AoE stuns and Roar can be crucial.

Enhancement and Elemental Shaman: Struggling in the Meta

Both Enhancement and Elemental Shamans are in the mid-tier, as they are just a bit too slow for the 2v2 bracket. Despite some recent buffs, Enhancement Shaman struggles to keep up with high-tier melee and lacks the finishing power needed to close out games. It may have some success against casters, but overall, it finds itself lagging behind in the current meta.

Drawn-Out Games and the Challenges for Shamans

You can expect most 2v2 games to be relatively drawn out, which won’t benefit your self-healing as a Shaman. 2v2 isn’t the ideal bracket for Shamans, given the pace and healing requirements. The nature of the bracket, especially against current meta healers, can make it difficult for Shamans to thrive.

The Decline of Fire and Arcane Mages in 2v2

One of the advantages of playing Frost Mage is the ability to set up plays for yourself. However, with Deep Freeze being removed for over a decade, it’s easy to see why Arcane and Fire Mages have fallen off in 2v2. Historically, Fire Mages paired well with Subtlety Rogues, but in the current meta, itโ€™s a challenge.

Fire Mage Pairing and Meta Struggles

Fire Mages can still try to pair with Rogues, but it might be an uphill battle when queuing into any of the current meta healers, like Discipline Priests. Arcane Mages should prepare for dampening strategies and look to pair with Discipline Priests or Resto Druids for more sustained gameplay.

Balance Druid: C-Tier Struggles

Balance Druids have always felt a bit clunky in the 2v2 bracket. Without any reliable way to win outside of using Incarnation and Root Beam, Balance Druids struggle. They need to play with healers who provide both damage and lockdown, such as Shamans or Preservation Evokers, but even then, most games will be an uphill battle.
