Greetings, fellow Space Marines and Warhammer enthusiasts! I am Librarian Husky, here to share my thoughts on *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2*. After sinking 30 hours into this brutal, action-packed universe, I’ve found myself unexpectedly drawn to the PVP mode. While my first impressions were mixed, as I initially felt the multiplayer lacked depth, the more I played, the more it grew on me. Join me as I dive into my experiences with both the multiplayer and PVE modes, and let’s explore the world of *Space Marine 2* together!
My Experience with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
I’m about 30 hours deep into *Space Marine 2*, and to my surprise, PVP might just be my favorite mode of the entire package. I’ll be honest, the first time I played the multiplayer, I thought, “This doesn’t really have the depth I was expecting.” So I figured I’d stick to the PVE operations for now, looking forward to the horde mode later in the game’s road map.
Expectations for Horde Mode
By the way, if that mode is anything like the Horde Mode XL in *World War Z*, which was made by the same developer, I’ll be very happy. They’re raining from above! Oh my God, oh God, oh Jesus!
Challenges in Modern PVP
I can’t, I can’t, I’m going to die, I’m going to die. I’m dead. You know, when it comes to PVP these days, it seems like every studio is trying to reinvent the wheel—heavily pushing live service models and maximum engagement tactics that feel more like time wasted than time well spent. Truthfully, I think many players feel the same way.
Nostalgia and Simplicity in Multiplayer
I miss the old days where multiplayer was just simple fun. Jump in, jump out. No waiting around for 30 seconds or more to respawn while you sit there twiddling your thumbs. That nostalgic feeling is exactly what *Space Marine 2*’s multiplayer has managed to capture.
Current Multiplayer Modes and Gameplay
The multiplayer currently includes three game modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint. It pits one team of Space Marines against another team of Chaos Marines. My only real gripe with the multiplayer right now is that I just want more of it—bigger modes, more players, more customization, specifically more maps, because there are only three in rotation currently, with more to come in later seasons.
Exploring Warhammer Lore
Regardless, I’m really enjoying my time with *Space Marine 2* at the moment, and the game has ignited a spark in me to dive deep into the *Warhammer* lore, which I’m both scared and excited for. I dabbled in some of the lore with *Tide*, but these damn Space Marines have got me hooked!

Vanguard Class Overview
I’m going to leave you with some gameplay now as I harass the enemy team with a Vanguard class. Unlike in PVE mode, where your grapple hook is limited to latching onto enemies to close the distance, in multiplayer, you can grapple from surface to surface. This makes the Vanguard a great poker class, creating openings for your teammates and being a general nuisance to the enemy.
Flanking the Enemy
I’m working the flank—there’s a lot on that point. Oh yeah, deal with the Heavies first. Nice finish, good assist. They’re headed up on me from the side—spooky! To your right, two on point. Got one, but there’s another one. Assault on our territory, bad grapple, give me the old slab around! Servant of the Cs can’t claim the objective on me.
Heavy Engagement and Strategy
Heavy’s on me—oh, he popped his shield! I should have saved that grapple. I could have pulled myself towards him. Yeah, I saw that at the last second. Oh man, stay on the point, boys, we’re doing good! Not spawning so great—he was on the staircase, heavy too.
Fighting for Control
Okay, think the bu walk is dead. Assault is landing on me! Oh no, Imperial matches assaulting our territory. Reloading—oh, I almost got out alive while reloading. Wow, he’s so mad at me! He mag-dumped on me while I was dead on the ground. Disrespect! He obviously doesn’t like my flanking techniques, so I’m going to keep doing them.
Final Push and Victory
Oh, it’s over! Okay, I thought it wasn’t. What a surprise—he’s up here on our territory. He figured out my spot. That jetpack boost is quick. Got him, kicked him in the face, he’s done! Nice work, you’re the best. Can you get up there as the assault? There’s a lot on that. No, I mean you can, but I’m curious if he jumped from this side or the other. Got that guy? Dead? Yeah, almost.
Managing the Objective
I’m almost dead, so I need to wait a second. We need to get on this point—got three on it currently. Two dead, behind you! A grenade got me. Three dead, I’m down. Okay, he’s in the center, coming up the middle. Hold him out! Where you tried to jump over last time with the assault player—he’s dead. Watch this side, two on this P location. My God, they hate us!
Managing the Objective
They’re pushing on your flank. I’ve got to fall back. Copy, I’ll stay on him. Our point is contested. Reloading. He was around here somewhere in the caves—Imperial assault, yeah, I’m on him. They’re on it again! Killed him. Enemy in the pit, going in right behind you, careful. Oh yeah, I see the pit—assault player on point. This guy’s really got it out for me.
Precision and Strategy
They are controlling this objective, aren’t they? Man, we got the Bullock down. Did you see the assault jump in the sky? Did you snipe him in midair? Nice! He rolled right into me, so I took him down. Let’s focus on the objective constantly. Servant of the Corpse God, claim the objective! Nice shot, spook! Another one on me, in this corner—grenade with frag, got a heavy on our flank.
Clearing the Flank
Behind you, right here! Shields down, he’s dead. I was ready for him, about to smash him with that hammer. Another one on me—got this guy. Don’t worry, I avenged you, he’s down!
Securing Objectives and Movement
I got an assist, so I must have hit him at some point. We need to get to the next capture zone—they’re already on it. It’s a bit close here, saved by his teammates. They’re coming from the left ramp of their spawn. Yep, into the pit now. You sticking with the assault class? Yeah, but I’m kind of getting wrecked.
Struggling with the Hammer
It seems very situational. I’m trying to make the hammer work, but it’s just so immobile. Oh, frag! Come on, come on, we can turn this around, bro! A guy rounds the corner, and I charge up my hammer and slam it down for a one-shot, 100% to zero. Yeah, it definitely looks satisfying when you can pull it off, but you’re an easy target when suspended in the air like that.
Pushing for the Objective
I wasn’t even on the point yet—oh, there’s another assault, same guy, onto the next objective. Oh, still fragging, and I didn’t realize. Yeah, they’re always so early to get on the objective. Try and get that first guy behind the tree—there we go, we got him. Good kill, spy! Assault on our territory again.
Clearing the Point and Finishing the Fight
Oh my God, I’ve heard that same voice line so many times now—they’re very repetitive. Let’s get a heavy melee on this forward shield. I’ll defile the objective. Yes, I need to zip out of here—got him! Oh my God, thank you for the assist! Dude, I messed up my escape. There’s another guy around that corner, though. Oh my God, he just W-passed me! More steps—the servant of the Corpse God claims the objective.
Precision in Combat
I’m going to get this guy—three people on the point. I’m dead! Heavy’s on me; that’s going to be really tough to deal with. Oh, I didn’t see his teammate on that corner. Moving towards the next point—yeah, let’s get the next one. This is insane, dude. It feels like you’re playing really mobile tanks!
Comparing Gameplay Mechanics
Yeah, it’s like, um, Transformers, almost. We have to think more about each fight—it feels like Titanfall in third person. That’s a decent way to describe it. Oh, I’m getting melted. You good over there, big fella? They’re turning me into liquid metal! I’m on a good flank here, I think.
Managing the Point and Defense
Oh, shield from behind! Oh man, three of them are on me—good luck. Was that the guy filling in the switch there? Okay, we got the advantage, boys, let’s go! Mhm, mhm, mhm, nice! Imperial forces assault our territory. Good, he’s dead—move on. Nice, got the point again, let’s go!
Securing the Objective
Servant of the Corpse God, this way! Well, stay at the BW walk—dead. Another guy—yeah, on that spawn staircase. He’s actually chasing me, I think. One of the Corpse God’s servants claims the objective. Ah, I couldn’t get around the corner in time!

Distracting the Enemy
I think I’m just being really annoying; they’re focusing on me instead of the point. Oh, 100%. It’s kind of my entire job as this class. I don’t blame them. We contested, so I’m going to move to the next zone. Two on the point already, be there! Oh no, there are two down in the pit as well—three down in the pit. We’ve got to start taking some points; we’ve fallen behind.
Fighting to Regain Control
No, we’re falling behind now. A bunch in that hallway. Nice! Come on, boys, I got two off the point. There was one on the stairs. Yeah, they have to be in the stairs still. Assault running on one side—one guy on me here. This place is lit! Oh my God, I’ll try to avenge you. We need three points to regain the lead.
Holding the Line
Good, one guy’s fleeing to the other staircase. Got him! You’re an anchor right now—the anchor holding everything together. I mean, yeah, I’m keeping up okay. How much armor do you have as a sniper? Uh, two, is it just two? Yeah, I thought it was quite low. Staggered—oh my God, that electric attack is crazy.
Dealing with Heavies
I need to try that in my class—it’s like a flashbang and AOE damage. It’s so close! Guy behind me, assaulting our territory. I’m getting flanked. Oh, I missed the frag on that corner. Oh my God, what a battle this is! Guy in the back right—got him, he’s dead. Heavy on us close, breaking his shield if I can. Yeah, broke the shield, backing up. Oh, two Heavies! Got hit hard by a heavy attack on the right side. Just trying to get myself out of Dodge. Got to get on the point—come on, killed another!
I dodged into another guy, though—well, that unfortunately is the last. Ah, nice try, boys. That was a good game, a very good game. They played well, but the heavy stacks are really tough to deal with. Had a lot of heavy plus ball combos again. Yeah, that baller is pretty powerful.
He can be really strong in the right hands, probably why they limit us to only two of the same class per match. Yeah, probably. What a fun PVP match, though. That was a great game. I had a blast! They definitely captured the feel of the original, which I’m pretty happy about.
Yeah, just how it was—I didn’t play it before, but it’s very similar. Damn, Tom, you had 24 kills, Jesus! I was just trying to trade my life in that game, trying to distract them. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was getting spooky. Only had three deaths. You only had three deaths? Yeah, you were sniping, right?
