In tactical shooters like Counter-Strike and Valorant, the term “pop-flash” refers to a flashbang that goes off almost the moment enemies see it—leaving them no time to react. It’s a technique used to catch opponents off guard, blinding them just long enough to make a move or secure a kill. Pop-flashes are especially useful when pushing into areas where enemies are likely to be holding angles or hiding.

Pulling off a good pop-flash takes practice and solid map knowledge. You need to know exactly where and when to throw it, often bouncing it off walls or objects so it pops right in front of your enemies’ faces. When done right, a pop-flash can completely turn the tide of a round and open up a path to take control of key areas.

How do you pop-flash in CS2?

There are mainly two styles of pop-flashes in CS2: one that’s silent and one that gives off a soft audio cue before it goes off. For a silent pop-flash, you’ll want to hug a wall, object, or stairway, aim slightly upward, then walk forward and use right-click to toss the flash underhand. If timed right, it should detonate mid-air in front of enemies—before it even hits the ground.

The other method involves using a louder throw. Stand back a bit and aim toward the ground or a nearby wall. Then left-click while moving to throw the flashbang, so it bounces and lands right in the enemy’s field of view before going off. A good example is on Dust 2: tossing a flash off the A-short handrails so it rebounds and pops in front of anyone holding A-site.

Whichever method you use, always give your teammates a heads-up so they can turn away and avoid getting blinded themselves.
