Hey there, Guardians! Librarian Husky here, and welcome to another guide. Let’s dive into the details of the Coran pulse rifle and discover why it’s a must-have for your arsenal.

This is a heavy burst pulse rifle, so it’s only the second legendary heavy burst that’s currently available. The other is the Nullify, which drops out of the Salvation’s Edge raid, so getting a god roll of this weapon won’t be nearly as difficult. A big difference between these pulse rifles, outside of the fact that the Coran is Arc, is that this weapon comes with a Radiolarian Transposer origin trait which gives us some added benefits towards Crowd control.

Radiolarian Transposer Origin Trait

This causes enemies to burst into a pool of Radiolarian, which will damage nearby enemies. It doesn’t have a lot of range to it, but with Logic Reductor, we can increase its overall effectiveness. You will be able to focus this weapon through the Helm once unlocking Fail Safe’s second weapon upgrade. You’ll also be able to get it randomly when completing any of the seasonal content.

Performance and Synergy

This is an Arc pulse rifle that fires out at 395 rounds per minute, and it has a lot of solid synergy with both Arc and Prismatic subclasses. It also comes with a rare assortment of powerful third and fourth column traits.

Comparison to Revision Zero

The Coran feels a lot like the Revision Zero. It’s got tremendous range, great impact, and excellent recoil control. It’s heavy, but you don’t feel weighed down when using it, especially when you have the benefits of Amplified, which are readily available whenever using Arc or Prismatic subclasses.

Enhancing Reload Speed and Handling

You’ll have increased Reload speed and improved handling. At its core, the Coran is not very fast on the reload even with a base of 18 to the magazine, so having the benefits of Amplified will really help out. There are also a few unique weapon perks that we can use to give this weapon a huge boost to its Reload speed while also giving it a massive bump in damage potential and increasing its effectiveness against Champions.

Improving Stability and Responsiveness

Since we’ve already got great range with this weapon, I find it more beneficial to focus on improving its stability, handling, and Reload speed so that it feels smoother and more responsive. This will also improve the functionality of some of our third and fourth column traits. This is why I recommend using a Reload Masterwork, Arrowhead Brake, and Flared Magwell. This setup will give us a 25-point increase in Reload speed, straighten out our recoil, increase our stability by five points, and increase our handling by ten points.

Third Column Perks

When it comes to our third column options, we have Pugilist, which would be a great utility perk if you’re using a lot of melee abilities. We have Air Trigger and Perfect Float, but these are only going to be beneficial when airborne. Enlightened Action and Perpetual Motion would both be great options to improve our handling and Reload speed, but Eddy Current is going to be the best option towards maximizing this weapon’s Reload speed.

Maximizing Reload Speed with Eddy Current

After running, this weapon gains a 20-point increase to its Reload speed and its handling. But when we’re Amplified, that gets increased by 60 points instead. As great of a benefit as this is, we’ve already invested in this weapon’s Reload speed quite substantially.

Reload Speed Efficiency

We’re down to 1.87 seconds, and that’s without the added benefits of being Amplified or having a reloader mod active. I mention this because High Impact Reserves is also an available third column option, and this is an extremely rare sight to see. Once your magazine has dropped down to 50%, you’ll start gaining a stacking increase to this weapon’s damage. With the crafted enhanced version of this perk, that bonus will trigger at 55%.

Damage Bonus Mechanics

This overall damage bonus will start at 12%, but as you get deeper into the magazine, you’ll gain as much as a 25% increase. With a base of 18 in the mag, this would kick in between the ninth and eighth bullet. We’ll be able to quickly get into that bonus damage with only 18 to the magazine, and with improved Reload speed, we’ll be able to keep that bonus damage coming.

Synergy with Volt Shot

The reason that High Impact Reserves will flourish so much with this setup is because we are planning on using Volt Shot in the fourth column. This requires us to reload our weapon, but as a result, enemies become jolted, spreading lightning damage to nearby enemies. This also stuns Overload Champions, even if we’re using the Barrier Champion mod.

Effective Use of Magazine

Unlike weapons that have 40 or more rounds to the magazine, we won’t be dumping and wasting an entire clip just to trigger this bonus. It’s actually going to feel much more fluid because you’re not going to have to think about it nearly as much. We can finish off an enemy and still empty out the rest of our clip to get increased damage with enough time to still trigger Volt Shot.

Maximizing Reload Speed and Damage

We invested towards our Reload speed, so we’ll be able to get to that next magazine even faster, allowing us to inflict maximum damage onto those jolted enemies. Eddie Current and Volt Shot would have more streamlined performance, but you would ultimately miss out on a lot of extra damage.

Alternative Damage Perks

Stepping away from Volt Shot, we have Focused Fury, which grants a 20% bonus in damage but requires precision shots. We also have One for All, which gives us a 35% bonus in damage once we’ve struck three enemies. There’s also Swashbuckler, providing a stacking bonus that maxes out at 33%, and Frenzy, which offers a 15% increase in damage with added handling and Reload speed.

Choosing the Best Perk Combination

I think between the damage bonuses, it’s going to be Frenzy or One for All, but Volt Shot is just so good in endgame content. The combination of Volt Shot and High Impact Reserves on a crafted Coran has been outstanding, so I have no doubt that you will have a ton of success with this amazing legendary pulse rifle.
